Melva Irene Cloward July 2, 1936 - November 21, 2023

Melva Irene Fenstermaker Cloward passed away November 21, 2023, in Springville, Utah. She was born July 2, 1936, in Rupert, Idaho, to Melvin Fenstermaker and Florenece Darling Millard.

She married Sterling LeRoy Cloward on May 13, 1955, in Ely, Nevada.  They were later sealed in the Manti Temple on October 12, 1968.  They were blessed with three children, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.  Sterling passed away in 2016.

Melva had many talents and used them to bless those around her. She was involved in the Special Olympics where her son, Don, participated.  She worked at Nebo School District as a bus aide for the special needs kids.  She was involved in Scouting for many years.  She and Sterling loved showing horses and traveled around to various shows, where they won many trophies.

Mom was always helping other people.  She taught us to have compassion and to work hard.  She had a great sense of humor which she had even up to the time that she passed away.  She made a lot of friends at Stonehenge Assisted Living and always made people laugh with all the stories she told them.  She enjoyed her growing up years in Idaho and had several stories about that to tell.  She was a great example of never complaining even when we knew she didn’t feel good or was in pain.

Melva is preceded in death by her husband, Sterling; son, Don; her parents; and her siblings: Ross, Edith, and Jim; her grandson, Jeremy; son-in-law, John; and a granddaughter, Courtney.  Melva is survived by her daughter, Mary Gavrila (John, deceased) of Birdseye; her daughter, Maxine (Roger) Parry of Mapleton; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held Thursday morning, November 30, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. at the LDS Stake Center, 989 South 2550 East, Spanish Fork, Utah 84660.  A graveside service will be held at the Salem City Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Maple Creek Hospice (and Cathy and her students), for their assistance and their compassion at Melva’s passing.

Melva’s family is asking that in lieu of flowers, please help someone in need this Christmas.

We loved Sterling and Melva, I traveled to many horse shows with them and enjoyed every minute of the time together. Both were very good with the horses. Both taught me how to groom and show a horse. They will be missed. David Brooks Salem, Utah
