Yolanda was born on March 7, 1979 in Jaén, Spain to Rafael Gómez Pérez and Elisa Valderas Rosales. On Sunday, September 29, 2019, at Utah Valley Hospital, Yolanda peacefully took her last breath and passed into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father.
Yolanda was the second child born to Rafael and Elisa. She has an older sister, Elisa (Eli) Gómez Valderas, a brother, Rafael Gómez Valderas, and a younger sister María José Gómez Valderas. Yolanda spent her schooling in Jaén, Spain where she graduated from Instituto Fuente de la Peña. Yolanda was later accepted to BYU where she continued her education.
She met her eternal companion, Gregory Lynn Thompson, while he was serving a mission in Spain. On her visit to America, two years after his mission, Greg proposed to her at the Timpanogos temple, and she said yes. They were married May 16, 1998 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Greg and Yolanda attended BYU. After Greg graduated in 2001, they moved to Tucson, Arizona where Greg continued his education, and Yolanda became the new mother to Hannah María. To this wonderful family two more daughters were born, Alyssa Lynn and Emma Lynn. Yolanda loved her family with all of her heart and soul. They were her greatest joy and the light of life.
Yolanda loved the Lord. She enjoyed serving in many different callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She found great comfort in the many blessings that were given to her by being a member of His church. After a valiant three-day struggle against an unexpected illness that attacked her body, Yolanda took her last peaceful breath Sunday night with her loving husband and her sweet sister, Eli, at her side.
Yolanda is survived by her husband, Gregory Thompson, her daughters; Hannah, Alyssa, and Emma Thompson all of Spanish Fork, her mother, Elisa Valderas Rosales, Spain, her sisters: Eli Gómez Valderas (Ben Pritt) of Layton, and María José Gómez Valderas (Leandro Guillén) of Pittsburgh, PA, her brother Rafael Gómez Valderas (Lidia Molina) of Jaén, Spain, many nieces and nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her father, Rafael Gómez Pérez.
A celebration of her life will be Friday, October 4 at 11:00 A.M. at the Cambridge Ward building, 275 South 1400 East, Spanish Fork, Utah. A viewing will be prior to the service at 10 A.M.
