Worthen Dale Jackson, 90, was born on September 5, 1930 in Leota, Utah to Raymond Silas Jackson and Bertha Kunz Jackson, the 4th of 8 children. He passed away quietly at his home with family on December 31, 2020.
He attended various schools in his youth and graduated from Payson High School where he met and married his sweetheart for time and eternity in the Manti Temple in January of 1949. They were blessed with six daughters and one son.
Our dad was a hard worker from the beginning with a goal to support his young wife and a family that started the first year they were married. He worked for Geneva Steel for over 30 years as a laborer and shift worker. They endured much sacrifice as that industry struggled through layoffs, union stress, and strikes but he always found a way to provide. He farmed the acreage that his parents had purchased when they moved to West Mountain. When his father became ill and could no longer support his family, Dad moved his mother and the remaining 3 children into the dream home he and mom had built in Payson and they moved back to the farm. He and mom worked together on that little farm pulling dams, cutting and hauling hay, raising livestock, harvesting grain. It was a good life and he loved it. He was talented in the woodshop and we all have multiple items he made for our young families such as toy boxes, little table and chair sets, stools, little kitchen cabinets, large dressers, bookcases and various other wooden creations. He was a skilled fisherman and loved to go to Fremont River to relax, reminisce and have fun. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in various positions during his life but being a temple worker and his time as Branch President were the highlights. He lived a full, good life and taught his children values of hard work, thrift, love, loyalty, charity and much more.
It was his desire to stay in his home for his lifetime and we feel blessed that we were able to help with that desire. As a family we worked to provide his care, but we want to especially thank Terri and Pat O’Bannon for putting their lives on hold to give the lion share of that care. We love them for their service and kindness to him.
He is survived by his children, Deona (Chad) Green, Morgan, UT; Carol (Fenton) Broadhead, Rexburg, ID; Shelly (Lyle) Francom, Warren, UT; Terri (Pat) O’Bannon, Payson, UT; Lore (Daryl) Curtis, Payson, UT; Kathryn (Rick) Carter, Elk Ridge, UT; Wayne Jackson, Payson, UT; 41 grandchildren, 110 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren; brother and sister: Lela Cahill, Evelyn Bona, Boyd Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his sweetheart, Iris Noreen Cooper Jackson, his parents, a sister Hazel Taylor, brothers Calvin Jackson, Jack Jackson, Joe Jackson and 2 great-grandchildren.
Due to Covid-19 there will be a small private family service for his children, grandchildren, siblings prior to is burial beside his sweet wife in the Santaquin Cemetery. A Facebook Livestream of the graveside service will be available on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at NOON on Dale’s obituary page on the Walker Funeral Home website for those who would like to join.
Send us a memory of dad as we cannot gather as usual.

January 2, 2021 at 11:31 pmI worked with Dale in my youth and teenage years. He could lift and throw wire tied bays of hay with one hand in a stack three feet high. He was the strongest man I ever knew.

January 6, 2021 at 7:31 pmDale was one of the best friends a person could ever have, I got to know him at Geneva Steel and that started a friendship that lasted over 40 years. We not only worked together at Geneva but also at Payson Fruit Grower’s. Dale was a great teacher l learned how to do electrical, plumbing, carpentry and many other things while working with him. The only thing I got to help him learn was how to harvest a 6+6 bull elk. We went to the Book Cliffs several times. I want his family to know that he was always talking about you and even though I never meet some of you I knew who you were and where you lived. Thanks for having such a Great Father I like you will miss him. God Bless You

Together they were hard workers and fun when the coopers would get together. Dale and Iris were so good to mom cooper. dale use to tease her about getting home early so she could wash her shoe laces. You girls and Wayne will really miss him but he is with his sweetheart and that’s a good thing

January 3, 2021 at 7:00 pmI loved the time I spent with my Jackson cousins. Uncle Dale was a hard worker. I remember Aunt Iris reminding us to be quiet because Uncle Dale was sleeping to work the night shift. Most of all I remember his hugs. He always gave a very tight hug. I loved his smile and he was always so sweet to me. I cherish those memories. Until we meet again.

Unconditionally, he gave love, support, comfort, joy and laughter to all . The time spent as a child on West Mountain with the Jackson clan are memories that will always be cherished. Sending loving thoughts and condolences to all of you.

January 6, 2021 at 9:39 pmMEMORY
For those we love remain with us,
For love itself lives on,
And cherished memories never fade
Because a loved one’s gone.
Those we love can never be
More than a thought apart,
For as long as there is memory,
They’ll live on in the heart. (Anon.)
With heart-felt gratitude we all should thank our loving Heavenly Father for His gift and blessing of memory; a gift which neither death nor time can destroy, for memory is eternal and nothing is lost in the eternal sense. Kind words, thoughts, deeds and experiences have been woven into the very fibers of other’s lives because of this special man. With the blessing of memory we can retain or recall, throughout the eternities of time, the remembrances of life which are forever stored in our minds and hearts as sweet gifts to unwrap, open, and enjoy when needed…especially when times may be difficult.
The most impressive and enduring epitaph a man can create is not inscribed on parchment nor engraved in stone, but rather, that which the impact and influence of his life has etched upon the minds and hearts of his friends, family, and those he has served.

January 7, 2021 at 12:12 amDale is in a better place. The funeral was a good tribute to his life of honor. Thank you.
I added a short video of a fishing trip I had with him in 1996 on the Raymond Silas Jackson Family Facebook page.
