William Leroy Dixon October 31, 1942 - July 5, 2023

William Leroy Dixon, affectionately known as Pete, peacefully passed away on July 5, 2023, after a valiant battle with cancer that spanned several years. Surrounded by his loving grandson Corby Dixon, devoted wife Vanessa Dixon, and their four children, William’s final days were filled with love, comfort, and cherished moments.

Born on October 31, 1942, in San Francisco, California, William was the beloved son of Dick Mendenhall Dixon and Bessie Ruth Virchow as well as a sibling to Dick Kenneth Dixon, Carol Irene Mattinson (Tom Mattinson), MaryLynn Dixon Titus (Michael Titus) and Susan Dixon Smith (Danny Smith). He proudly served in the U.S. Military from June 1, 1960, to January 21, 1964, and later from September 1, 1963, to May 18, 1966.  During his time in the Navy, he was stationed in Oahu, Hawaii, and was also stationed on the U.S.S. Essex CVS-9 aircraft carrier.

In 1962, William married Patsy Harrington, and together they raised three children: Cory D. Dixon, Kurt L. Dixon, and Robin Sue Dixon. The joys of William’s life expanded when Kurt blessed him with three grandchildren: Corby Dixon, Gage Dixon, and Harley Dixon, while Robin blessed him with another grandchild, Tori Dixon.

Corby Dixon and his loving wife Vanessa Dixon brought further happiness to William’s life by giving him the gift of four great-grandchildren: Thomas, Haelie, Audrey, and Sabrina. He cherished every moment spent with these little ones, reveling in the joy they brought to his life during his final months.

On July 2nd, 1995, William found his final love when he married Barbara Lynn Dixon in Jackson, Wyoming. Together, they shared countless memories and supported each other through life’s joys and challenges for 20 plus years.

For those who frequented the Wee Blue Inn in Payson, Utah William’s presence and warm personality likely made an impression. He was a familiar face, always ready to share a smile and engage in friendly conversation. A devoted sports enthusiast, William found great pleasure in watching his beloved San Francisco 49ers and the University of Utah Utes play. Sports brought him excitement and camaraderie, and he often bonded with others over their shared passion for the game.

Beyond his love for sports, William possessed a wealth of wisdom gained from a lifetime of experiences. If you were fortunate enough to engage in a deep conversation with him, you would discover his unique insights and thoughtful perspective. He had a way of imparting knowledge that left a lasting impact on those who knew him well.
