Wendie Calayne Monk Whitehead, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2025 at Spring Gardens Senior Living in Mapleton, Utah. Surrounded by loving family she departed this life, leaving her earthly challenges behind. She was a shining example of love, intelligence, strength, and wit, and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Born September 6, 1948, in Spanish Fork, Utah, Wendie was the first child of Calvin and Norma Monk. At age 10 her family moved to Mapleton. Wendie’s childhood was a happy one, filled with lasting memories… many of which included riding horses, spending time with her Dad working the horses and doing chores, lots of chores. She was Daddy’s girl. Those were simple times, times she remembered fondly. Early in life, she learned the value of hard work and the importance of family, she carried those values with her throughout her life.
Wendie’s life journey took her from Spanish Fork to Mapleton, then to Denton, Texas. Just eighteen days before her family moved to Texas, she met Phillip Karl Whitehead. She had a strong feeling on the first day they met that she would marry him someday. She and Phillip were married June 3, 1969 in the Salt Lake Temple. They made their first home in Denton, Texas. A few years later they returned to Utah, living in Springville for several years before they built their current home and moved to Spanish Fork.
A lifelong and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Wendie devoted much of her time to serving in various callings—particularly in the Youth and Scouting Programs. She had a deep passion for family history and genealogy, living the scripture, “The hearts of the children shall turn to their fathers” (D&C 2:2). She touched countless lives through her diligent research, and we’re sure she is joyfully reunited now with the many ancestors she came to know and love.
Wendie’s professional career was both successful and fulfilling. She worked as a Computer Support Technician and found great joy in both her work and the people she worked with. Wendie contributed her skills to to the family businesses—A+ Animal Products and Rocky Mountain Manufacturing—before working at Beehive Clothing, WordPerfect, Novell, and finally retiring from NuSkin International in 2013.
She was an avid bowler and a proud member of the Star Spinners Bowling Team. Wendie also devoted decades to the Boy Scouts of America, where she earned numerous awards for her commitment and service. A breast cancer survivor, she tackled every challenge in life with fierce determination and grace.
She was a creative and vibrant person, and was always busy with something meaningful. Her hobbies included ceramics, quilting, knitting, computers, bowling, collecting, expert-level Jenga, and—of course—family history. She loved sharing her talents through volunteer work at the Spanish Fork Senior Center.
More than anything, Wendie cherished her family. She was a devoted wife to Phillip Whitehead for nearly 56 years. Together they raised a beautiful family of five rambunctious boys; Phil, Allan, Doug, Brian and Charlie, and are the proud grandparents of eight grandchildren; Bailey, Payton, Allison, Elizabeth, Gage, Melani, Rachel, and Tyson
Wendie is survived by her loving husband, Phillip; their sons: Phillip, Allan (Cindy), Douglas (Nikki), Brian (Mandy), and Charles (Stephanie); and her siblings: Carol (Davis) Moore, Randy Monk (Carl Lindstrom), Lori (Keith) Warner, Vince (Sylvia) Monk, and Richard (Ann) Monk.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Calvin and Norma Monk, and her twin sons David Neil and Fenton Ian Whitehead.
To honor Wendie’s life and legacy, we invite you to share your memories and photos on her memorial page. Remember her for the warm, witty, and selfless soul she was—and let her spirit live on in the stories you tell.
