Virginia P. Carlson June 6, 1938 - April 14, 2021

Our beloved mother, Virginia Palmer Carlson, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2021, at the age of 82. Virginia was born in Blanding, Utah, to Guy and Ruth Palmer on June 6, 1938. She attended and graduated from San Juan High School and went on to study and receive a license as a practical nurse (LPN).  She drove a school bus and worked at the BYU Bookstore for many years.

On December 17, 1955, Virginia married Duane A. Carlson in Farmington, New Mexico, and  they were later sealed in the Salt Lake City Utah Temple. The two were very happy and celebrated almost 60 years together.  Virginia loved her family and worked hard to stay involved in their lives and keep her family together. Some of her favorite activities were working in her yard and taking care of her dogs. She loved the traditional family Easter picnic that she hosted every year.  Virginia was a great cook and loved cooking for her family.

Virginia was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings and capacities. Among those callings included serving as Relief Society President in the Hawthorne, Nevada Ward.  The calling she enjoyed most was serving as ward organist. Virginia also enjoyed her membership and many years of service in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers (DUP).  She served a mission at the Bishops’ Storehouse and worked in the temple at various times, including playing the organ. Service and hard work for her family and religion were very important to her, and she was deeply loved for this, and will be missed.

Virginia is survived by two sons and three daughters: Mark D Carlson (Jill) of Spanish Fork, UT, Dianna Carlson of Spanish Fork, UT, Helen Robertson of Spanish Fork, UT, Mitch Carlson (Laura) of Spanish Fork, UT, and Heidi Hansen (Michael) of Springville, UT.  She is also survived by 24 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane A Carlson; parents, Guy C and Ruth Palmer; brother; Bert Palmer; sister; Maxine Christensen; sister; Genevieve Newberry; son; Jon T. Carlson; and grandsons; Ryan LeBaron and Tyler Lombardi.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 19, 2021, at 11 a.m. at the Spanish Fork Stake Center, 1006 East 200 South, Spanish Fork, UT. Prior to this, a viewing will take place from 10:00-10:45 a.m., also at the church. Interment will take place in the Salem City Cemetery.

Our Aunt Virginia was very beautiful and kind. I always loved our visits to Grandma and Grandpa Carlson’s and seeing Aunt Virginia and Uncle Duane. I wish I would have been able to get to know my cousins but dad was in the Air Force and we traveled around a lot. Sorry for your loss, but happy for the beautiful reunion with her eternal sweetheart.
