Virginia Louise Steele Sorenson passed away peacefully on June 7, 2023, at the age of 90. She was born December 17, 1932, on a frigid, snowy, winter’s day in her mother’s bed at home. She was the 6th of 10 children born to Chester and Edna Steele. She said that, even though they did not have much money growing up, the house was always full of love.
Ginny loved life, even when it was hard to do. She always chose happiness and could find beauty in nature even on a gray, dismal day. She encouraged her loved ones to “Seize the day” and to be strong. She shared her own strength with others during hard times. She was confident in who she was and always saw the positive.
In all things, she was a mother, first and foremost. She was always there to encourage, lift, and love her children. Lisa, Ginny’s niece, describes it this way: “A mother’s love cannot be separated from us. They pour their very being into us from the moment we are born until the day they die. They love us beyond description, beyond measure. With all of this tireless love, how can we not go on and be the very best person we can be?”
Ginny loved singing, laughing, and talking. When she was with one or more of her sisters, the room became so loud with talking and laughing it was amazing anyone could hear each other. They would always end up bursting into song, singing old-fashioned love songs and wonderful harmonies together.
She loved her crossword puzzles and word searches. She loved reading and was always lending her favorite books, magazines, and movies to others to enjoy. She wanted things to be crisp, clean, and classy. She enjoyed learning new things and going on long rides. She loved shopping, chocolate, long, scalding hot showers, and orange kittens. One of her favorite places was Pismo Beach, where she would walk along the ocean and look for pretty shells. Born to a family of rockhounds, she looked for unique rocks everywhere she went.
Ginny lived a life of service to her family. No sacrifice was thought of as one. It was just what she did naturally. She had a testimony of prayer, and her prayers were mighty on her family’s behalf. Her favorite hymn was “I Know that My Redeemer Lives”:
“He lives, my kind, wise, heav’nly Friend.
He lives and loves me to the end.
He lives, and while he lives, I’ll sing.
He lives, my Prophet, Priest, and King.
He lives and grants me daily breath.
He lives, and I shall conquer death.
He lives, my mansion to prepare.
He lives to bring me safely there.”
Ginny requested that there be no viewing or funeral service. She was a very private person, and we respect her wishes. There will be a graveside service on Monday, June 12, at 12 p.m. at the Spanish Fork cemetery.
We love you so mom, Granny, and Ginny. Until we meet again.
