Viola “May” Ivey Wilson Losser, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2026, in her home of issues incident to age. Her husband Neil, family members, and friends were by her side at the time of her passing.
May was born on January 29, 1939, in Eureka, Utah, to Jessie Viola Butler and Charles Lincoln Ivey. She was the oldest of three daughters. She attended Payson High School and was Payson City Homecoming Queen her senior year. May attended cosmetology school after graduating from high school, and after completing her training, she started her own beauty salon, which she named May’s Cuts and Curls. May was a beautician throughout the remainder of her life. It was something she truly loved.
May met her first husband, LaMar, after he had returned from his mission to Africa. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on October 1, 1958. Together they had four children, Scott, Bart, Joan, and Ann.
May and LaMar loved being together. They particularly enjoyed working in the yard. Virtually every day the weather permitted, they could be found planting flowers, mowing, trimming, and improving their yard. May had a particular interest in flowers. She was especially fond of Dahlias, and she spared no expense to grow beautiful flowers. Her flowers usually won first place in the annual Payson City Flower Show at Peteetneet. That passion remained with her throughout her life.
LaMar passed in the Spring of 2017. Following a couple of years being on her own, May married Neil L. Losser on June 15, 2019. May and Neil spent time visiting with family, working on their yards, traveling, and being friends to anyone they met. They loved to go out to eat and could often be seen visiting with friends and relatives at local restaurants. Neil was very kind to May and took care of her very well until her passing.
May will be deeply missed and is survived by her two sisters, Charlotte Ross and Joyce Hill, two sons, Scott Wilson (Alice), and Bart Wilson, and her two daughters, Joan Cox (Mark), and Ann Wilson (Geri). May also has many grandchildren and great-grandchildren that she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband, LaMar; her parents; and her granddaughters, Chelsie Cox Baun (Joan), and Shaunesi Wilson (Scott).
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 75 South 600 East in Payson, Utah. Visitation will be prior from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the church. There will also be visitation on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 587 South 100 West, Payson, Utah. Interment will be in Payson City Cemetery, 400 North 800 East, Payson, Utah.
May’s family wishes to thank all those who made a positive contribution to her life. She was a person who made a difference in the lives of many, and she will be greatly missed.

September 3, 2026 at 3:45 amMy heart is broken… she was one of those people in my life who made me feel secure and loved no matter what was happening in my little world. I’ll never forget that she hiked to the top of Mt Nebo with Ann and me and we ate cucumber sandwiches that she made for us along the way…and I remember her telling me how much she loved the forget-me-not flowers that grew wild in Payson Canyon. I remember the little bowl of honey on the counter that we’d dip the saltines in while she joined in our conversations…gosh…There were times even after I was grown and married that I’d get to missing being at the house hanging out there with Ann, so I would pop in to say hi to her and dad, just to give me a lift, a taste of the good life from spending so much time there as a young teenager. They both always made me feel right at home. When I left, I would smile all the way home. I will always picture her in her gardens somewhere. I sure did love her. She has a special place in my heart and I will never forget her! 💐

September 3, 2026 at 6:38 pmSorry for the loss of a dear friend and fellow classmate. My favorite year of knowing May was in the 6th grade at Peteetneet Elementary. I sat behind her in our assigned seats in Garth Olson’s class and I have the scars to prove it! May had no brothers to tease her so I made up for it! Every day that she had had enough teasing she would turn around and sharpen her claws on my forearms! My.mother would ask me why I always had scabs on my arms? She was a beautiful lady all the way around and a true friend to me and everyone she knew. My mother visited her professionally and would fill May in on what I was up to. She was one of the GREAT ones!
