It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our sweet mother, Velma Elaine Talbot Swasey, 86. She passed away on February 17th, 2021 at her home in Payson UT, surrounded by her loved ones. Her services will be held at Walker Funeral Home, 587 South 100 West, Payson UT on Monday, February 22nd. The viewing begins at 10:30AM and the services at 12:00PM.
Velma was born on April 28th, 1934 in Pocatello, ID, to Mark and Elizabeth Talbot. She was raised in Benjamin UT, and attended Spanish Fork High School. In 1951, Velma married Oscar M. Salinas in Malad, Idaho. Together they had two children; Vonnie Salinas Rodriguez and Clay M. Salinas. Later they divorced, allowing for Velma to meet the true love of her life, Arvin J. Swasey. They married in 1955 in Ely, NV. and had two more children; Alta Gaylene Swasey and Rodney Arvin Swasey. All four children were the absolute loves of their lives. As a power couple with high ambitions for their family, they decided to buy their first truck in 1964, and soon after C&R Trucking was born! In 1970, they moved to Wells, NV, where Velma began working as a dispatcher for the Wells Police Department, and later was the director of the Wells Ambulance Crew. She was also the director that helped establish the Wells Senior Citizen Center, and she was the president of the BPW (Business and Professional Women),PTA, and was a co-owner of C&R Trucking Inc., Aztec Towing and Great Basin Distributing. Mom inspired many women by proving to be a fundamental leader in her community. She retired in Payson UT as secretary of C&R Trucking Inc. to care for her husband and mother until they passed. Mom was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and daughter.
Her favorite hobbies included the Penuckle Club, WIBC(Women’s International Bowling Club), and she was the proud owner of a CDL and Hazmat License.
She is survived by her four children: Vonnie (Ernie) Rodriguez, Clay (Glena ) Salinas, Gaylene (John) Anderson, and Rodney (Jana) Swasey, 13 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, her siblings Roma (Maynard) Fullmer, Brent (Cherie) Talbot, and her loyal companion and dog, Jack.
She is preceded in death by Arvin( husband), Mark (father), Elizabeth (mother), Virgil (father in Law), Alta (mother In Law), Val (brother), Nilda (sister), Dustin (grandson), Jesse (granddaughter) and Jacob (great grandson).
With regrets, due to Covid-19 restrictions and social distancing practices, we will be unable to provide the traditional luncheon after the services. The livestream of the funeral service will be available at the bottom of Velma’s obituary.
