Our family had to say an early goodbye on Monday, October 26, 2020, when Tyus James (TJ) Brackner passed away following an automobile accident. TJ had a wonderful giving heart and was considered a friend by all who knew him.
TJ was born in Logan, Utah, and later moved with his family to Payson, where he graduated from Payson High School in 2006. A few years later, he graduated from a welding program and made his living working with his hands. TJ was two semesters into the BYU pathways program and had the dream to become an anthropologist/archaeologist.
TJ was passionate about metal music, human history, and contemplating the mysteries of the universe. He recently developed a love for metal detecting and had a collection of various rings, coins, and other objects he had located with his detector, and loved to dig into the history of them. One of his favorite pastimes was playing disc golf with his dad, uncle, and brothers. He notably scored a hole in one, twice, in his career. Hole #12 at the Beer Can Flats course and on #4 at the Salem course.
TJ was a great source of comfort and humor for his family and will be missed immensely. TJ’s daughter, Cadence, was his world. He cared for her more than anything and cherished each and every moment spent with her. We know there are no endings, only everlasting beginnings, and until we meet again, TJ, you will continue to be our inspiration to do better and be better.
TJ is survived by Cadence Brackner, daughter; David and Adrianne (Stout) Brackner, parents; Ryan Brackner, Darren and Paige (Deuel) Brackner, and James and Julia (Brackner) Adams, siblings; Rob Stout, uncle; Holly Stout, aunt; Louise Stout, grandmother; James and Gayle Brackner, grandparents.
A viewing will be held at Walker Funeral Home in Payson on Friday, October 30, 2020, from 1:30 – 2:30 p,m, followed by a graveside service at 3 p.m. at Payson City Cemetery. The family asks that all who attend wear masks and follow proper social distancing guidelines.

November 8, 2020 at 11:37 pmI want to let you know how sorry I am for your family’s tragedy. My heart aches for you and I mourn with you. I don’t believe I ever had the privilege of meeting TJ, but I can tell he was a very good man; although I easily could have assumed as much given his familial relation. I offer my most heartfelt condolences to you, and I hope faith and time will ease the burden of sorrow.
