Tina Kanani Westwood, born January 24, 1968, in Kahuku, Hawaii, passed away peacefully in the evening hours of Father’s Day, June 21, 2020. She returned to her Heavenly Father, after a prolonged illness, and reunited with her earthly father.
Tina was lovingly adopted by Clyde and Kaye Westwood at birth. It was love at first sight, which gave her parents a strong desire to nurture her throughout her life. She spent the first 5 years of her life in Hawaii. This time combined with her heritage gave her a lasting love for the islands and its people. In 1973, she moved with her family to Spring Lake, Utah. She attended school in Payson and graduated from Payson High in 1986.
Tina loved sports and many other social activities in high school. She was active in the Payson High School marching band as a percussionist. She was a guard on the Payson High School basketball team. Her team participated in the state tournament her senior year. She may have been the shortest basketball player in the state that year. She also played in the Payson City softball league. At times in her life, she was also an avid bowler and spent much time at the local bowling alley. Tina rounded out her extracurricular activities by serving on the Payson City Youth Council as Mayor and Councilwoman.
Tina left Payson to start her own Instacare Clinic, Blue Mountain Medical, in Pendleton, Oregon. She took great pride in her ability to serve the community and provide medical care using her training as an EMT. She returned to Spring Lake in 2011 and enjoyed many years of landscaping, gardening, and being surrounded by family and caring for others.
Tina was very talented with art, drawing, sewing, canning, quilting and collecting shoes and t-shirts. Her favorite time of the year was Shark Week, which she enjoyed viewing with many friends while cuddling several of the pug dogs that she owned through the years.
Tina is survived by her mother, Kaye Westwood of Spring Lake; siblings: Estella Namahoe (Jim St. Martin) of Portland, Oregon; Dallin Westwood (Janet) of Spring, Texas; Dave Westwood (Kristin) of Red Lodge, Montana; Ken Westwood (Beckee) of Bluffdale, Utah; and Susan Woodhouse of Spanish Fork, Utah. She is also survived by her birth parents, Ivan and Francine Harada.
Tina is also survived by her constant companion, Miki, who waits expectantly at the end of the driveway for her return.
Our family expresses our gratitude to the many emergency service and medical personnel that cared for Tina. A special thank you to Dr. David Bennion, who was relentless in his pursuit of a cause and cure for her illness.
Tina was small in stature but she had a big heart, was loyal, dedicated, and generous to those she loved. While disappointed about her declining health, she met her trials with patience and determination. We will miss our Moki dearly and take comfort in the fact that she is now with Dad.

June 25, 2020 at 3:42 pmI have many memories of and with Tina. My first interaction with her was in middle school as we both signed up to be percussionists in the band. From that point, we were great friends throughout our school years. We drummed alongside each other, played together in the Huff Music Contest, became competitive on the drum line and also traveled with her parents to watch Ken play on the high school team. I always thought the Westwoods were the coolest family in the valley, to not only live in Spring Lake, but to also have an elevator in their home. Tina’s crazy laugh would always cause me to break attention while in the band and her support of me as the Drum Major was so appreciated.
Even later in life as we would have class reunions or I would see her at other city events, “Moki” and I always had a great re-connection.
A memory of her climbing up on the fire truck at our 20 year class reunion with 3 huge bags of candy for all to throw out, making sure everyone was having a fun time, this was Tina’s true nature.
I send my condolences to the entire Westwood family. You all were so kind and loving to me in my youth. Knowing what I do about your family, a great celebration of Tina’s life with take place and her smile, laugh and love with be felt. I am glad to know where her spirit is, her earthly body is now free from the struggles and illness she had to endure.

June 26, 2020 at 6:01 pmOur hearts are saddened to learn of Tina’s death. Our family shares many fun and loving memories of Tina and the Westwood family over the past 50 years. Tina was adorable as a baby and little child, spunky as an adolescent and loving, thoughtful and kind as a grown woman. She shared the bounties of her talents, from gardening, canning and artwork with us as we visited whenever we were in Utah. She makes fabulous pickled beets! We send thanks to the family for the many years of fun together. Tina will never have to think about “the green tooth” emerging from the canal again! Ha, ha. We will miss her always.

June 27, 2020 at 12:30 amAloha Tina, you were our light house on more than one occasion. One night before Christmas you took us in to your home and the world seemed b right again. There were Christmas decorations and beautiful light displays all over the house. We didn’t have any clean clothes with us at which point you pulled out some Westwood hoodies that were made for the family, You said Ohana and handed us over a t-shirt that said Westwood, and on the hoodies were written thins important to the Westwoods: Education, faith, honest, pray, service, patience, work, integrity, hope, ohana and Love right in the center. Which is where you are in our hearts. Aloha, Tina, Ohana Machell and Nicki

June 27, 2020 at 4:43 pmDear Kay,
I have chosen not to attend the services because of the virus that is so prevalent today but my heart yearns to be there. Sorry but glad a couple of little “bonfires” brought us together. I’ll remember Tina’s spontaneous laughter when some carpet runners would get turned over. During those times Tina had a great big heart in that little body and I know she took great pride in being of service to others. I think about the great love that has been given to all that you have called your own. I’m sure your endeavors to raise a righteous family will surely be recognized by our Heavenly Father. Love, Monte and Marie Depew
