It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Thora Tuckett Wilcox, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who peacefully left this world on February 13, 2025, in Tooele, Utah. Born on September 26, 1936, in Lake Shore, Utah, to Jesse and Verda Tuckett, Thora’s life was one of love, faith, service, and devotion to her family and community.
Thora was raised in Lake Shore, She also lived in Flowell, Fillmore, and Meadow, Utah, before settling in Tooele, Utah. She graduated from Spanish Fork High School. On November 11, 1960, she married the love of her life, Ares Don Wilcox, in the Salt Lake City Temple. Together, they built a beautiful family filled with love, kindness, and laughter.
Thora worked for the Nebo and Millard County School Districts as a bus driver, where she touched the lives of many children with her caring, reliable nature. But it was her service and love for her family that defined her. Thora was an active and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where she served in many callings, including Cub Scout Leader, Primary Presidency, and Temple Worker at both the Manti and Salt Lake City Temples. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she worked tirelessly to serve those around her, exemplifying her love for the Savior.
Thora was also deeply involved in her community, where she participated in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and the Civic League, always willing to lend her time and talents to support her neighbors and friends.
Thora’s hobbies included gardening and yard work, singing in choirs, baking, cross-stitching, canning, and reading the scriptures, all of which brought her great joy. She found peace in her quiet moments of service and creativity, and her nurturing spirit will forever be remembered by all who knew her.
Thora’s family was her greatest treasure. She is survived by her children, Curtis (Susan) of Fillmore, Utah, Jay (Ephra) of Fillmore, Utah, Sharon Edwards of Salt Lake City, Utah, Ed (Allison) of Bluffdale, Utah, Janet (John) Evans of Tooele, Utah, James (Dayla) of Meadow, Utah, Patty McEwan of Clear Lake Oaks, California, Robert (Janette) of Cedar City, Utah, and Carol (Brandon) Teeples of Tooele, Utah. She is also survived by 40 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, her brother Duane Tuckett, and her sisters Ruby Smith and Jolene Reynolds.
Thora was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Verda Tuckett; her beloved husband, Ares Don Wilcox; her twin sister, Theo Tuckett; her daughter, Julie Ann Wilcox; four brothers, two sisters; and one great-grandson, Justin Wilcox.
Thora’s love, faith, and devotion will live on in the hearts of her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind a legacy of service, kindness, and unconditional love.
May her memory be a blessing, and may she rest in peace, knowing that she made the world a better place through her quiet strength, her laughter, and her endless love for her family and friends.
