Thomas Vincent Sakievich, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025, in Spanish Fork, Utah. He was born September 7, 1953, at Williams Air Force Base in Mesa, Arizona, to Vincent Anthony Sakievich and Juanita Jo Sakievich.
Tom grew up in Frederick County, Maryland, where his strong sense of service and dedication to others began to take root. He graduated from Mesa High School, later earning a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Brigham Young University and a Master’s degree in Business–Government Relations from Park University.
In 1975, Tom enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His career took him across many states and instilled in him a lifelong commitment to leadership, discipline, and service. He retired honorably in 2006 after more than three decades of distinguished military service.
On June 18, 1977, Tom married the love of his life, Marji De Etta, in the Santa Monica Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Los Angeles, California. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and service.
Following his military career, Tom continued to serve his community. Tom spent five years as an entrepreneur in Provo, Utah, founding Golden Health in the 1990’s. Tom was also elected Utah County Commissioner from 2021 to 2024. He was deeply committed to civic engagement, serving as precinct Vice Chair and President, county and state delegate of the Utah National Parks Council, and Black Diamond District Commissioner of the Boy Scouts of America. His contributions were recognized with the prestigious Silver Beaver Award.
Tom’s faith was central to his life. He served a mission in Melbourne, Australia, from 1972 to 1974, and later held numerous callings, including service in bishoprics in Chesapeake, Virginia, as a stake missionary, and on stake high councils. Of all his callings, his favorite was teaching the five-year-olds in Primary, where his warmth and kindness touched countless young lives.
He found joy in simple things—his garden, his fruit trees, and the opportunity to lend a hand to family, friends, neighbors, and anyone in need. His life was a testament to service, love, and devotion.
Tom is survived by his wife, Marji; his children Peter (Richmond, VA), Emily (Spanish Fork, UT), Maegan Ricks (Fredericksburg, VA), Samuel (Savage, MN), Danielle (Salt Lake City, UT), and Luke (Savage, MN); and 11 cherished grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Mark, Joanna, Paul, Joseph, Steven, and Daniel Sakievich. He was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother, David Sakievich.
A visitation in Tom’s honor will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Walker Funeral Home, located at 187 South Main Street, Spanish Fork, Utah, from 10:00–11:30 a.m.. This will be followed by a graveside service at 12:00 p.m. at the Spanish Fork City Cemetery, 420 South 400 East, Spanish Fork, Utah.
Tom’s legacy of faith, service, and love will continue to inspire all who knew him. His family and community will remember him as a man of integrity, compassion, and unwavering devotion.
