Tamara “Tami” McClellan was born May 22, 1966, in Santa Monica, California, to Lynda and Marvin Richard McClellan. She grew up in sunny Torrance, California, where she loved singing and toured Europe with her high school choir. She was the middle child between two brothers.
Tami attended Brigham Young University, where she met Carter the night before returning home for the summer. That night, Tami was actually on a date with one of Carter’s friends. Carter didn’t know it was supposed to be a double date, but Tami insisted he come along anyway. They immediately connected and wrote to each other all summer. When she returned to Utah, Carter called to ask her out, and they soon fell in love. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on March 6, 1986.
While Carter attended the University of Utah, Tami worked to help put him through school. During this time, they welcomed their first two children, Tiffani and Parker. The family later moved across the country for Carter’s medical school and residency, living in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Kansas, where they had their third child, Summer. Tami made each move a fun adventure for her family.
In 1997, they moved back to Utah to be closer to extended family, settling in Salem, where Carter began working at the Spanish Fork Clinic. They then had their fourth child, Brooke.
Tami enjoyed being a personal trainer and helping women exercise from her home gym. She especially loved serving in her church callings. She cherished her multiple times serving as Young Women’s President and most recently as Relief Society President. Tami was a rock of support and love for her family through the trials of life.
In retirement, Tami and Carter loved exploring Utah in their side-by-side, traveling the United States, working on and expanding their yard, wood carving, and attending countless activities and sporting events for their 10 grandchildren, whom she adored. She hated missing even a single event for a grandchild.
Recently, they fulfilled their dream of owning a cabin in the mountains, becoming part-owners of a cabin at Scofield Reservoir. Tami passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in her sleep at the cabin at the age of 59.
Tami had a strong testimony and deep love of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We know she had the faith to join her Heavenly Father willingly and is now reunited with her mother Lynda; brother, Brent McClellan; grandson Aaron Lytle Peterson; her mother and father-in- law Kent and Dorothy Lytle; grandparents, and other loved ones.
She is survived by her husband, Carter Lytle; father, Richard McClellan; brother, Scott McClellan; children, Tiffani Peterson (Aaron), Parker Lytle (Julie), Summer Bigler (Justin), Brooke Hartshorn (Kaden); and grandchildren, Kendyl, Claire, Jensen, Colt, Creed, Maxwell, Savannah, Braxton, Maverick, and Hayes.
A viewing will be held at Walker Funeral Home in Spanish Fork on July 9th from 6–8 pm, and July 10th from 9:45–10:45 am at the Salem West Stake Center. The funeral will follow at 11 am. Tami will be laid to rest at the Salem City Cemetery beside her mother and grandson.

July 9, 2025 at 10:38 pmI was so sorry to hear about this. I have known the McClellan family my entire life. They were always so kind to me when I was growing up, and I have many fond memories of them. I remember Tami as being very talented, pretty, and kind; and just a super good person. I know she was a terrific wife, mother, and grandmother. I remember seeing her when her brother, Brent, passed away in 2013. She reminded me a lot of her mother, Lynda, who was as wonderful and caring as they come. May God bless the Lytle family at this time.

July 22, 2025 at 11:18 pmI met Tami and Carter in medical school while living in Wauwatosa, WI. We enjoyed four years of friendship, support, working together at church and having a good time! She and Carter are the best hosts! The family also lived in OP KS briefly where I live now and I have so much love and respect for Tami. Always smiling, loving, supportive and so dedicated to her beautiful family. I’m heart broken for your entire family.
