    Dear Michelle and daughters,
My wife and I were saddened to learn of Steve’s passing. I still recall your and Steve’s thoughtfulness on several occasions 20 years ago delivering a surprise and delicious bean dip to my home during the Christmas holidays .
From my personal contacts with Steve over the course of about 25 years, I found him to be a very competent student, capable lab assistant, and talented instructor. I conversed with him several times about pursuing a doctorate that he later earned at the University of Utah. The BYU Public Health Department will feel his absence and his contributions.
Whenever I saw him he always had a cheerful smile and appeared genuinely happy to see me. The last time I saw him was a few years ago at which time I was leaving the Provo temple and he was entering. He met me as a long-time friend—which it was. In the hereafter, that type of meeting will occur again.
May you and your daughters be blessed,
    Alton and Ardith Thygerson
