Stephen R Carter, 73, passed away on April 20, 2026 in Spanish Fork, Utah.
Steve was born in 1952 in Salt Lake County. He was the beloved husband of Kristine (Tina) Carter, and was the devoted father of nine children.
Steve was dedicated to serving God, to bettering the world through technical innovation, loving his wife and raising his intelligent children. He spent all his life serving in a multitude of church callings, including being a long time varsity scout leader and a counselor in the stake presidency. His career in technology was highlighted by his helping to found Novell’s patent program. He was awarded 383 patents, including foreign patents. His creative life involved everything from writing novels to building his own tabletop role-playing game. And not everyone can say that they were a beekeeper, but he did that too.
The family was delighted that one of his talents was making delicious food – marinated turkey and chili were his specialties. One of the activities his kids enjoyed most was doing Radio Controlled cars with Dad. And the whole family was fascinated when his creativity launched into 3D printing – where all of his ideas could come to life. And as his family knows, playing Star Citizen with his sons online was one of his great joys, especially during his last few years – and even his last few days.
Steve is survived by his wife, Kristine (Tina), his children, Stephen, David, Liaken, Ron, Rowen, Astrid, Daniel, Michael, and Laura. When Steve passed away, he was greeted by his mother, who had died only 3 weeks earlier. What a great reunion!
A memorial service will be held for Steve at his church early next week.
