Shon Michael Brinkerhoff, 39, passed away on December 3, 2019 at his home in Lehi, Utah. In 2006 Shon married Jaima, the love of his life, in Steam Boat Springs Colorado. This marriage made Shon the proud stepdad of Jaima’s daughter Brooklyn, whom Shon loved and admired. Shon and Jaima would go on to have twin boys, Cooper and Cru, whom Shon loved enormously.
Shon was born on April 12, 1980 in Provo, Utah to his parents Ralph D. Brinkerhoff and Patricia Stevens Brinkerhoff. He was raised in Spanish Fork, Utah, alongside his five siblings. He graduated from Spanish Fork High School in 1998. Notably, Shon was counted amongst nearly 9,000 so-called juvenile delinquents who attended the now infamous 1996 Rage Against the Machine concert at the Spanish Fork Fairgrounds — an experience he would come to remember with pride.
Shon graduated from Utah Valley University in 2002 with an Associates in Applied Science in Electrical Automation & Robotics Technology. In 2006 he began work as a robotics engineer at IM Flash / Micron. He would work there for thirteen years. Shon was also a gifted Madden NFL player, an exceptional complainer, and a natural handyman whose skills were often appreciated by his friends and family.
In addition to these academic and professional achievements, Shon also had an accomplished ecclesiastical career as the founder and sole member of the Church of Shon. Sadly, the church’s teachings and rituals have died alongside its founder. Shon will be remembered for his independent spirit. This spirit is best symbolized by the Yamaha Striker motorcycle Shon loved to ride. Those who met Shon, might say that this independence of spirit could at times result in a certain stubbornness, although those who knew him well will also remember Shon for the acts of tender kindness that he would show in quiet moments of vulnerability to those around him.
When he wasn’t taking Jaima for rides on his motorcycle, Shon loved to fish in Utah’s great outdoors, watch South Park, listen to the Beastie Boys, cheer for the Oakland Raiders, and barbecue in his backyard during the summer. His family will cherish the memories of the many fishing trips they took with Shon and the twins to Lake Powell.
Shon is survived by his loving wife Jaima, his two sons Cooper & Cru, his stepdaughter Brooklyn, his dog Marley, his Parents Ralph and Patricia, his siblings Mark (Suzanne), Krista, Kara (Justin), Corinne, Derek (Kylie), his nieces and nephews Jordan (Katey), Kiki, Bryton (Abby), Ashton, Kaitlyn, Triston, Brylee, Azure, Makynlie, and his many friends.
A celebration of Shon’s life will take place on Monday, December 16 from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the White Shanty Venue in Provo, Utah. In lieu of flowers, please bring a case of Pabst Blue Ribbon.
