Shirl Simmons Livestream Broadcast

On Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, after enjoying a dinner and time with family, Shirl Albert Simmons suddenly passed away due to complications from chronic heart and lung failure.  He was born on November 13, 1939 as the oldest child of William and Clara Simmons, both of Lake Shore, Utah.

In his early life, Shirl attended school in Spanish Fork, Utah. He attended Central Utah Vocational School for mechanics after he graduated from high school.  He served a mission to Finland for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, of which he was a faithful member his entire life.

At age 23, Shirl married Joyce Beckstrom, his lifelong friend.  They were married on February 15, 1963 in Manti, Utah in the Manti LDS Temple.  They settled in Lake Shore, Utah, where they raised their family of one girl and seven boys.

He served in the National Guard both in Utah and in Washington, where he worked at Boeing Aircraft for a couple of years.  He then returned to Utah and worked as a millwright at Geneva Steel for the rest of his career.

After he retired, Shirl and Joyce together served four missions for the Church, including Nauvoo, Illinois and Martin’s Cove in Wyoming. He also served for several years as a temple worker in both the Provo and the Payson LDS Temples.  He was always a faithful and dedicated member of the LDS Church and was not hesitant to share his strong testimony with his family.

Shirl leaves to survive him, his children: David R. Simmons, Janice (Terry) Groo, Norman S. (Jennifer) Simmons, Jerry L. (Amanda) Simmons, Ray Dean (Tiffany) Simmons, Rodney P. (Melissa) Simmons, and Brian W. (Julie) Simmons, and his sister: Helen Nielson.  He is also survived by 25 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce B. Simmons, his parents, William A. Simmons and Clara S. Barney, his sister Marie Newitt, his son, Brent S. Simmons, and one great-granddaughter, Grace Merrill.

Shirl’s family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Summerfield Retirement and Embrace Hospice in Orem for their kind and compassionate care of Shirl.  He truly enjoyed the last few months of his life spent at Summerfield.

A funeral service will be held on April 26, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. at Lake Shore Chapel, 5916 S 3200 W, Spanish Fork, Utah.  A viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m. before the services.  Interment will be at Spanish Fork Cemetery in Spanish Fork, Utah.
