Sheldon Loveless was born November 29, 1931, in Payson, Utah, to Vaughn Tillman Loveless and Laurel E. Dimmick. He was the eighth of nine children.
He grew up helping on the farm, being mischievous, making friends. He loved horses and trained his first wild mustang at the age of 14. In high school he played sports and attended seminary.
After graduating from high school, he worked until he received a mission call for the LDS Church, when he turned 19, in 1950. But with the Korean conflict going on, he could not get a deferment from the draft, so he enlisted in the US Navy. After a couple of years in, he got into the submarine program and then atomic energy for the ships. He served 26 years in the military, before retiring in August 1976 and moving back to Utah.
He married Janice Partington in October 1953, in the Logan LDS Temple and they had five sons.
Sheldon liked hunting, fishing, sports – especially BYU football and basketball, and gardening. He always planted a bigger garden than he needed, so he could share with family and friends.
He is survived by his sons: Kent (Margaret), Kerry, Kelly (Vonnie), Bryon (Cathy), Keith (Candace); as well as 14 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janice; and three grandchildren: Sheldon, Michael, and Kerilyn.
A visitation, for family and friends of Sheldon, will be Friday evening, August 6, 2021, from 6-8 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 187 South Main Street, Spanish Fork, Utah 84660. A second viewing will be on Saturday morning, August 7, 2021, at the Benjamin Church, 3238 West 7300 South (Benjamin, Utah County), Spanish Fork, Utah, from 9:45 – 10:45 am. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at the Benjamin Church. Following the funeral, interment will take place at the Benjamin Cemetery, 9000 South 3200 West (Benjamin, Utah County), Spanish Fork, Utah 84660.
