Shayla Lynn Hiatt Skeem, 42, passed away on May 25, 2025, in Payson, Utah. Shayla was born on December 1, 1982, in Payson, Utah. With her big green eyes, blonde hair, dimples, and distinctive cleft in her chin, she was the most beautiful baby, truly a sweetheart from the very beginning.
She was raised in Payson and Spanish Fork where she attended school and graduated from Spanish Fork High School in 2001. Shayla later earned her Certified Nursing Assistant certification and went on to complete training as a Medical Billing and Coding Specialist.
In 2008, Shayla married Brandon Skeem and together they had three beautiful children. Though they later divorced, Shayla’s greatest joy and purpose in life came from being a devoted mother to her children.
Shayla had a creative spirit and a gentle soul. She loved art, gardening, yard work, and making jewelry. Shayla loved sunflowers; she was known to dig up wild sunflowers and plant them in her yard. But, most importantly, she was known for her kindness, loyalty, intelligence, and sweet, caring nature. Her warmth and love left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
She is survived by her beloved children: Talan, Brynlee Marie, and Albert (“Albie”) Skeem; her parents, Alan and Jeanette Hiatt; sister, Shanda Atwood (Ben Gibson); two brothers, Jason and Jesse Hiatt; and many cherished nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her infant sister Sheena Marie, her grandparents Max and Nadine Hiatt, and uncles Kevin Hiatt and Max J. VanAusdal.
Shayla’s presence will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Her absence leaves a space that cannot be filled, and her memory will be held close until we are reunited again. Shayla, we love you and miss you our sweet little girl.
A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Walker Funeral Home located at 587 South 100 West in Payson, Utah. Visitation will be prior from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Payson City Cemetery, 400 North 800 East, Payson, Utah.
A luncheon will be provided for family and friends at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 780 West 500 South, Payson, Utah.

May 30, 2025 at 7:39 pmMy sincere condolences for your loss. Shayla was the best friend I ever had. In our younger days, we were inseparable. We used to walk from my house to the Santaqueen every day to buy a couple Dr Pepper’s! Most of the time, we would have to scrounge up enough change to be able to get two, but somehow we always managed to do it! We definitely got up to some crazy shenanigans, but we always had a good time, and it was non stop laughter when we were together! If you didn’t know Shayla, you wouldn’t know that she was one of the funniest people you might ever meet. She had a quiet calm nature, but once you got to know her, you realized she isn’t quiet at all! I always admired Shayla’s strength! She has endured many difficult things in her life. I can’t believe she is gone. Even though the loss is terrible and unimaginable, those 3 kids just gained one heck of a guardian angel!
With love Carrie
