Shari Knight Livestream Broadcast

Shari Naomi Flint Knight, age 77, of Spanish Fork, Utah passed away peacefully at her home on December 17, 2025 surrounded by family. Shari was born on Feb. 23, 1948 in Ogden, Utah to Murland and Barbara (Butler) Flint.

As a child, she was known for her calm and peaceful countenance, deep kindness towards family and friends, and endless patience and love for others. These traits continued throughout her life and uplifted all who had a chance to interact with her.

After graduating from high school, Shari attended Dixie College, then Weber State University studying child development. While at Dixie, she met the love of her life, Ken Knight, and married him on August 20, 1968 in the Salt Lake Temple. Ken’s schooling and professorial career took their family to Columbia, Missouri (1973); Brockport, New York (1976); and Terre Haute, Indiana (1979), before they made their final home in Spanish Fork, Utah, in 1996. During all these years, Shari worked full-time at home raising her eight children. She welcomed everyone into her life with open arms, including family, friends, and strangers. She executed the tasks of motherhood with planful precision and selfless hard work. She was a kind mother, free from guile, and non-judgmental. Shari was also coolheaded amid the chaos of raising a large family. Perhaps this came from her meditative alone time washing dishes; she said it was the only time she got to herself with eight kids because everyone scattered whenever she started washing. It took a lot to ruffle Shari’s feathers, but preparation for cross-country family road trips came close. One of her daughters remarked that she had “a major in Child Development with a minor in How to Cope with Kids on Vacation.” Despite the stress, she and Ken managed to take their children to all 48 continental states on a very limited budget. Shari’s planning paid off through unforgettable family experiences and traditions that her children carry on with their own families.

Shari always made time to serve, which was a perfect pairing to her refined ability to hear spiritual promptings. She often brought her children along to help others, including once waking them in the middle of the night to go help neighbors sandbag their property before a flood. She found endless joy in others’ happiness and successes, though her efforts to serve never seemed to find the public eye. These acts were quiet, prayerfully considered, and thoughtfully carried out (usually accompanied by a small gospel picture or two). This kindness was evident after she was nearly killed by a drunk driver in 1993. Among over fifty friends who came to the hospital to support her, one of them remarked, “it is pay back Shari Knight time.” They paid her back by bringing meals, arranging rides, and helping children. One friend even called over 100 churches in the area and asked them to pray for Shari’s recovery. Family and friends hold deep gratitude for Shari’s recovery from this life-altering event and cherish the additional 33 years they had with her. Shari saw greatness in everyone and deeply loved her friends.

Shari’s service reached beyond her family and friends to her church community. She was a stalwart member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and nurtured a strong relationship with Jesus Christ. She lived her favorite scripture, “counsel with the Lord in all thy doings.” She served in many different callings, including Primary President, Young Women President and Stake Relief Society President. Most recently, she served as her Ward Emergency Coordinator, utilizing her lifelong knowledge and passionate interest in preparedness. Shari loved attending the temple and invited others to come along with her on a regular basis. She and Ken served two back-to-back proselyting missions in the Washington DC North mission from 2012-2015. They also served two Family Search Support missions from 2011-2012 and 2016-2019. After their missions, Ken and Shari focused their service on their children and grandchildren. They hosted impeccably organized family reunions biennially, frequently taking 35-40 people down to Moab where Kenny grew up. Shari showered love on her children and grandchildren and sought everyday to improve her relationships with them. She loved her children’s spouses unconditionally, as if they were her own. She and Ken did everything in their power to help each child’s family through their struggles, once even moving across the country for several months to help a grandchild diagnosed with cancer. Shari spent her final days making sure that all her children and grandchildren knew of her testimony of the Savior and that she loved each of them with all her heart.

Shari is survived by her husband, Ken Knight, her siblings Marsha, Allan, and Ivan (Martha) Flint, her children Jolynne (Jose) Jimenez, Amberly (Ivan) Chirolla, Kristi (Steven) Bernards, Karl (Leisa) Knight, Kurt (Jennifer) Knight, Conrad (Jaimee) Knight, Laura (Adam) Foster, and Brandon Knight. She has 36 grandchildren, and (almost) 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her grandchildren Madison and Frederick Knight.

Services in her honor will be held on Saturday, Dec 27 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 870 E Canyon Road in Spanish Fork, UT. A visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00am, with the funeral beginning at 10:30am. Internment will be at the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.

I’m so sorry that I did not hear of Shari’s passing until now, but I remember her well – she was always kind, gentle and soft-spoken, and that is what I remember about her whenever she came to BYU to see Ken. I also remember their shared passion for geneaology. I am retired now, but was a secretary in Exercise Sciences when Ken retired.
