Scott Steffensen Bennett, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, returned to his Heavenly Parents on April 25, 2025 at the age of 67 in Murray, Utah, surrounded by his loving wife and children.
The youngest of three rambunctious boys, Scott was born on October 29, 1957, in Boise, Idaho to William and Lila Bennett. At the age of eight, he moved with his family to Mercer Island, Washington, where he spent his formative years and graduated from Mercer Island High School in 1976.
After high school, Scott served a two-year mission in Guatemala for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There, he learned and spoke both Spanish and Kaqchikel, a local Mayan dialect — an experience that shaped his lifelong love for people, culture, and connection.
Upon returning home, Scott pursued higher education at Brigham Young University, earning a bachelor’s degree in communications in 1984. He began his career in radio, drawn to the power of voice and storytelling, and later transitioned into a job in insurance upon moving back to Washington.
Scott had a deep love for the outdoors, and in his younger years he could often be found climbing mountains — including summiting Mt. Rainier twice — or skiing down them with joy and abandon. His passion for skiing was so strong it once led to academic probation, a detail he shared with a laugh and a twinkle in his eye.
In 1989, Scott met Kirsten Eliason, the love of his life. They were married and sealed in the Seattle Temple on June 23, 1990. Together, they built a loving and devoted family, welcoming twin boys in 1993 and a cherished daughter in 1997.
In 1998, Scott was diagnosed with a serious heart condition, prompting him to leave his job and begin a new chapter as a full-time parent — a role he embraced wholeheartedly. After six years of hope and perseverance, he received a life-saving heart transplant in 2004.
In 2007, the Bennett family relocated to Salem, Utah, where Scott continued to live a life rich in purpose, connection, and love. He had a deep passion for learning and was always curious about the world. He loved road trips, meaningful conversations, and spending time with family. He had a way of elevating every interaction, bringing sincerity, humor, and wisdom to the table — often all at once.
Scott spent his time in the service of others, serving as a temple worker and a variety of church callings. Scott was a strong advocate for Organ Donation and worked as a volunteer for Organ Donor Services in both Washington and Utah for many years.
Scott lived a full and happy life and blessed the lives of all those fortunate enough to know him. He will be remembered for his warmth, his strength, his wit, and above all, his love.
Scott is survived by his wife of 34 years, Kirsten; his three children and their partners, McKay (Jess) Bennett, Logan (Isrrael) Bennett/Rueda, and Lauren (Christopher) Benton; his beloved grandson, Crosby Bennett; and his two brothers, William (Bill) and Steven (Steve) Bennett. His legacy of love, resilience, and deep faith will continue to inspire all who knew him.
