FAMILY! That word explains our mom completely.
Sally Ann Schultz Nelson, age 77, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by family. Her “new” kidney (transplant) that she received 10 years ago, extended her life, and for that extra time, we are grateful. Unfortunately, that kidney began to fail this last July.
Sally was born April 12, 1944, in Altadena, California, to Dutch and Norma Schultz. Sally was married to Chris Nelson on September 19, 1963, in the Logan Utah Temple. Mom and Dad were high school sweethearts. They met their sophomore year and have not been separated since.
Sally was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in many church callings throughout her life. In her early life, Sally spent her time raising her four children. When her children were all in school, she decided to go to work. She worked at many places throughout her time here on earth, including the IRS, Polar King, Salem City, UVRMC; finally purchasing the Polar King with her husband, and worked there, as well as at UVRMC, where she retired at the age of 65.
Sally loved to sew, crochet, paint, shop with grandkids, go to club with her best friends from high school, junk night with her kids, and to travel. But her family was always her pride and joy, and most of her life was spent watching her children play their favorite sports. She used to joke that she could stand in the middle of the ballpark and turn to a different field every 10 minutes to see one of her kids playing ball. She continued watching from the bleachers as her grandchildren played football, volleyball, basketball, softball, wrestled, and danced. It didn’t matter what activity it was, you could always count on Sally being in the bleachers.
Sally is survived by her husband, Chris Nelson; her children: Suzette (Monelynn) Hartivgsen, Natalie (Michael) Cole, Shane Nelson, John (Stephanie) Nelson; honorary adopted daughter, Diana (Austin) Leonard; her sister, Mary (Gary) Dame; and sister, Jane Babson; brother-in-law, Paul (Kathy) Nelson, and sister-in-law, Mary Jo Clayson; 16 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren (with one on the way). Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Orvin Woodrow and Edith Norma Schultz; brother, William Orvin Schultz; and brother, Daniel W Schultz; and by her in-laws, Frank Tiffany and Nora McGlone Nelson.
The Nelson family would like to thank the hospice nurses and techs at Maple Creek Home Health and Hospice … thank you Angie, Keylee, and the many others who walked through her door and helped her during her last days here on earth. Your love for what you do is deeply appreciated.
