Rusty Boyd Thomas, 39, of Lehi, Utah, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2024. Rusty was born on January 25, 1985, in Payson, Utah, to Tony and Shirley Thomas. He grew up in Salem, Utah, and graduated with the class of 2003 from Spanish Fork High School. From an early age, Rusty displayed an entrepreneurial spirit, always eager to understand how things worked and determined to fix or improve them. His curiosity and strong work ethic were defining traits throughout his life.
Rusty’s career was as diverse as it was remarkable. He worked as an underground coal miner for many years, where he developed a deep fascination with geology and the intricacies of mining. Later, he transitioned to the construction field, specializing in hydro-excavating. Rusty excelled in this new venture, rising to the role of vac-coordinator and becoming a partner in a Hydro-Vac operation. His drive and dedication left a lasting impression on all who worked alongside him.
Rusty’s passions extended beyond his professional life. He loved the outdoors and found joy in hunting, fishing, camping, and boating. Lake Powell held a special place in his heart. Rusty also shared a profound connection with music, a bond he cherished deeply with his late mother, Shirley. Their shared love for concerts and music created memories he carried throughout his life. Adventurous by nature, Rusty was always living on the edge, embracing life with enthusiasm and vigor.
In 2013, Rusty met Stevie, and they quickly became inseparable. He embraced her son, Taisyn, as his own and later welcomed two daughters, Ellasyn and Emersyn, into their family. For all his achievements, Rusty’s greatest joy and accomplishment was his family. He was a devoted partner, father, and friend whose love knew no bounds. His warmth and charisma touched everyone he met, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of friends, family, and colleagues alike. To know Rusty was to love him.
Rusty is survived by his life partner, Stevie Johnson; his children, stepson Taisyn (15), and daughters Ellasyn (6) and Emersyn (3), all of Lehi, Utah. He is also survived by his father Tony Thomas of Salem, Utah, his brother, Jeremy (Karlie) Thomas of Oak City; and his grandmother, June Harmer of Payson, Utah. Additionally, Rusty is survived by numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will dearly miss him.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Biggs Thomas, and his brother, Dustin Thomas. Rusty was also welcomed in heaven by his grandparents, extended family, and friends who passed before him.
