Russell G Davies December 16, 1943 - August 19, 2020

Russell G Davies passed away, Wednesday, August 19, 2020, after a short illness and surrounded by those he loved most.

Russell was born December 16, 1943, to Frank and Winona Davies, in Duchesne, Utah. While he was quite young, the family relocated to Mapleton. As a youngster, Russell developed a love for all things with a motor and wheels. He bought, and was running, his first commercial truck at the young age of 15. He graduated from Springville High School and continued his education and graduated with his bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University. While studying in Logan, Russell met and started dating the love of his life, Janet. They were married February 14, 1966, in the Salt Lake City Temple.

Soon after marriage, Russell started his own business, Davies Motor Company, for which he is known across the country, for his custom work. He had a work ethic that was unmatched. Russell and Janet made their home in Spanish Fork, Utah, and had 3 children. The only thing that he would miss work for was family, continuing with his grandchildren. He rarely missed an opportunity to attend a band concert, baseball game, or car shows, that the kids were involved in. Russell and Janet enjoyed traveling the country with a great group of friends.

Russell is a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints having served in many positions, including Ward Clerk and in the Elders Quorum.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Winona Davies; his brothers: Eugene, Verl, Lyle, and Kirk.

He is survived by loving wife, Janet; children: Ron (Nancy) of Spanish Fork, Wendy (Mike) Johnson of Provo, Brad (Angela) of Spanish Fork; 7 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson; and his 2 sisters: Mildred Haymond of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Audrey (Terry) Gavin of Lake Shore, Utah.

Russell’s family will visit with friends Monday, August 24, 2020, from 6-8 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 187 South Main Street, Spanish Fork, Utah. Funeral services will be held for family members, Tuesday, August 25, 2020, at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Springville, Utah.

Russell was such a great friend! He and Janet were so much fun on all our trips we took together! He had a brilliant mind, keeping up on everything happening locally and throughout the world too. He will be missed so much! May good memories take away some of the sting of losing him too soon.

I was able to catch some of the service on line, what a great guy! I’ve had so many positive experiences with Russell over the years. I know everyone at the service had an opportunity to write down a memory or two. I’ll leave one or two here. I didn’t have the opportunity to know him personally, but he was my mechanic. He was so good to me! I like to do a lot of my own work and he was always so supportive. I would call him or stop by and he would take time out of his day to answer my questions, or just let me pick his brain. He even let me borrow a couple specialty tools more than once. I tried to slip him some cash a few times for being so helpful, he would never take it. So about 5 years ago I decided to put a whole different rear suspension on my dump truck. It was a big job. Russell told me if I had any questions just give him a call, or stop by. I can be super OCD and once I was done I had some concerns. I was measuring the rear frame to see if everything was even, and I wasn’t sure if it would hold up etc. I was really just going nuts with it. I brought the truck by to let him look at it. He told me the rear frame I had done was plenty beefy. Then he said “Greg, you know what you need to do?” I said “what?” He said “stop looking at it”. Oh how my wife and I laughed about that! It was exactly what I needed to hear. Sometimes my OCD issues makes me brilliant and sometimes it is just crippling. He told me just what I needed to hear to set my mind at ease. I know I can be a pain in the butt sometimes, but Russell was always patient and kind. I will miss him! I have also gotten to know Ron and Brad a little over the years and look forward to continuing to work with them. My deepest condolences, he will be missed by all who knew him.

It’s so sad to hear that Mr. Russell is no longer with us. I had the pleasure of meeting him for a short while and I feel honored that I got to meet such a great man. Him and his sons built the truck that I currently drive and it is a testament to his great knowledge, skill, and attention to detail. Amongst all this, he was the kind of man that you wanted to be around and to learn from. I will never forget the short time I got to spend with him. Russell G Davies will be greatly missed.
