Ruby Biggs Hansen July 15, 1929 - April 17, 2022

Ruby Biggs Hansen was born July 15, 1929 in Winter Quarters, Utah to Thomas Biggs Jr. and Mable Forward Biggs. She was the oldest of nine children. She had a special bond with all of her siblings. Making sure she helped them in every way she could.

Ruby passed away on April 17, 2022 at the age of 92, in Spanish Fork, Utah after a long and productive life.

Growing up in Scofield, Utah was one of her great loves. She had a fun childhood with her brothers and sisters and all the neighbor kids playing and growing close in this small town. She lived in Spanish Fork for many years, but Scofield was always her home. She was so happy whenever she could visit, especially if there was a family reunion.

Scofield Elementary was where she got her early education. There were no secondary schools in Scofield and she was required to move to Springville where she finished her schooling and graduated from Springville High School.

Soon after, she met Sam J. Hansen and they were married October 22, 1947 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They were blessed with four children, Gary Steve, Roger Lynn, Rhochell, and Jill.

Membership in the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was an important part of her life. She loved to teach children in Primary, especially the 7-8 year olds where she could help prepare them for baptism. She served in the Provo temple until the Payson temple was built. She served there until Covid stopped everything, about 25 years total. She was an exemplary visiting teacher.

She worked at the Del Monte Cannery for a time, then became a full-time mom and homemaker. Once the children were in school, she worked as a lunch lady allowing her to be home when they got home. She finished her career by being a sweeper at the school until she was in her eighties. Being a hard worker was something she did naturally, wanting to keep herself busy.

The grandchildren loved to stop at her house where they always got something good to eat, a hug and maybe a playful scolding if she didn’t like something they were doing.

There was a group of neighborhood women who met together every month for about 60 years. She looked forward to club night, seeing her friends and having a good visit.

Quilting was a passion for her. There was one quilt, or several, on the frames at all times. They were beautifully hand quilted. She made hundreds of them in her lifetime and gave every single one away, making sure each new grandchild had a quilt made especially for them. To keep her hands busy, there was crocheting or embroidery.

She had an excellent memory for people’s names, and their kids’ names, birthdays, and special events. She loved people.

No matter what anyone asked her to do she did it, and did it well. She was generous, willing to serve, at a moment’s notice, never thinking of herself or her needs but looked outward for anyone she could help.

She is survived by her daughter, Jill (Doug) Talbot, daughter-in-law Janet (Gary) Hansen, son-in-law JAllen (Rhochell) Scott, her sister, Joan (Ernst) Eichler, 19 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Hansen, her sons Gary Steve Hansen and Roger Lynn Hansen, her daughter, Rhochell Scott and a grandson TJ Scott, her siblings Jean Burch, Inez Ferguson, Ruth Roundy, Roy Biggs, Sterling Biggs, Ralph Biggs and David Biggs.
