Roylance Money Livestream Broadcast

Our beloved mother, Roylance Spratling Money, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2025, age 96. Family members were at her bedside in her assisted living facility in Payson, Utah where she had lived for the past five years. Until the last week of her life, she was alert and enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Despite several years of failing health and increasing weakness, she never complained and would often say, “I feel great!” She would sometimes cry when it was time for a visitor to go, but she would say, “These are happy tears.”

In 2010, at age 80, Roylance wrote her own obituary in an effort to “be efficient” and “help my kids out while I still have the capacity to write.” The following is taken from her writing.

“Roylance Spratling Money was born August 30, 1929. Daughter of Evelyn Bateman and Royal Spratling, she experienced an idyllic childhood, where she thought the meadow larks sang, “West Jordan is a Pretty Little Town.” Her long life has been filled with achievements – but her main focus has always been her family, whom she loved with all her heart.

Her talent in speech and drama was a great source of happiness. She gave numerous speeches and was cast in several plays in her ward, community, and schools. She was first chair trumpet in junior high and high school orchestras.

She was a bright student and always a leader, starting in junior high school, where she was elected “Head Girl.” At Jordan High School, she was a junior class and student body officer. At high school graduation ceremonies, she gave the valedictory speech.

She graduated from Brigham Young University in 1952 with a B.A. degree in Speech and Elementary Education. Working her way through college as a secretary, she still managed to graduate with honors. She served on many student committees and was a popular coed. As student body secretary-historian, she met and fell in love with another student leader, Mark Money. They had both graduated from BYU when they married July 9, 1952 in the Manti Temple. Their beautiful progeny have been the joy of her life.

(After Mark returned from serving for 18 months in the Army in Korea, Mark and Roylance lived in El Paso, Texas, Cambridge, Massachusetts, San Gabriel, California, Hollady, Utah, College Station, Texas, St. George, Utah, and Cottonwood Heights, Utah.)

A devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Roylance served in many ward and stake capacities as a leader and teacher. She began her dedicated service at a young age, starting in high school, when she was called as a junior Sunday School teacher and then as a counselor in the M.I.A. presidency. She especially enjoyed serving as ward Relief Society president.

She taught 1st grade at West Jordan Elementary School in 1953-54 while Mark was in Korea and 1st and 2 nd grade at Morningside Elementary in Hollady, Utah in 1963-68. She was a whiz at shorthand and has been employed in various business companies as office manager and stenographer.

Her siblings are Richard Philip Spratling (Judy) and Donnabel Sharp (Ray).”

After her dear Mark passed away in 2014, Roylance continued to live in their Cottonwood Heights home for several years along with a few grandchildren and their spouses. After experiencing several falls and other health problems, she moved to Coventry Assisted Living near her home and then to Beehive Home Assisted Living in Payson, Utah.

Roylance is survived by her brother, Rick (Judy), and her children, Nolan (Robin), David (Jana), Cynthia Swan (Wayne), and Bruce (Kim). She has 19 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Donnabel and her husband Ray, and one great-granddaughter, Nona Evelyn Brown.

We express appreciation to the staff at the Beehive Home, members of the Page Ward, and iCare Hospice who helped care for her during the last 5 years of her life.

Roylance had a long and wonderful life, filled with family, friends and service. She was loved by all who knew her. We will miss her, but we are grateful for the joy she brought into our lives for so many years.

    Mary Jo Heaton says

When I was a little girl I really wondered if my Aunt Roylance was my second mom. Everyone said I could have been since I was shy like she had been as a child!
Some of my fondest childhood memories are spending time with my Money cousins and especially because Aunt Roylance always had fun outings planned and let me do things so many enjoyable things.
It doesn’t matter that I’m now a “senior”I still feel like that little girl when I think of her.
When I had hip surgery at 12 and 13, she was one of the first people to visit me and bring me flowers and other goodies. I still have the “The Elephant Joke Book” she gave me.
My thoughts and heart are with all of her family. You see, it doesn’t matter how old your mom, grandma, great grandma, and sister are, it doesn’t hurts any less.
