Ross Whitlock November 11, 1951 - October 26, 2021

George Ross Whitlock, age 69, passed away from Covid complications on October 26, 2021 in Payson, Utah.

Ross was born November 11, 1951 in Gunnison, Utah to Dale C. and Bessie Bell Whitlock. Ross graduated from Provo High School in 1970 and married Sally Schoenrock in 1971. Together they had 4 kids; Jeff, Lisa, Chad, and Chelsea. Ross was drafted to serve in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and went to Berlin, Germany where he served as a Military Police Officer at Checkpoint Charlie. Dad loved this country and was proud to have served.

Ross was an insurance adjuster for many years and worked in Utah and Salt Lake County. He retired several years ago and loved going on rides with his friends and family in his side by side. Ross loved the Arizona sunrise, a good sci-fi book or TV show so he could “get off the planet”, and his family. Ross never had a bad word to say about anyone, always had a dad joke ready to tell, and a smile on his face.

Ross’ life was enhanced five years ago when he met up with childhood friend Patricia, fell in love, and later married. He said she treated him better than anyone had in his life and he loved her very much. We are grateful he got to be loved the way he deserved.

Ross is survived by his sweet wife, Pat, his four children, three step-children, nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, his brother Todd (Lisa) and his sister Janet (Tim). Ross was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Stephen and Lind.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at Mayfield Town Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Monday, November 1, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 587 South 100 West, Payson, Utah 84651.

Ross, Bakin Bill Johnson & I were all drafted into the Army on May 5, 1971 in Salt Lake City.. We attended Basic Training At Fort Lewis, WA, From there we were “selected” to attend Military Police Training at Fort Gordon, GA. After training together for 4 months, Ross & Bill were assigned to Germany and I went to Ft. Devens, MA. Bill got us back together again a few years ago for some reminiscing. Ross always had a great & fun loving attitude and was way to young to leave us. He will be missed by his military buddies. Thank you for serving! Rest in Peace.

Dear Pat, I am so sorry for the loss of such a good friend and husband. You both deserved many more years of good times and laughter! We may not understand now, but there will come a time when all is understood and we’ll rejoice with the memories made here on earth.

My condolences to the Whitlock Family at the loss of these 3 brothers. I served with Steve in the Utah Army National Guard in Provo and remember him as good soldier. Sorry to use this venue to ask a question about the Whitlock family. Ross is being buried in Mayfield, Utah. Any possibility that your families are related to Morris and Elaine Whitlock. Morris grew up in Mayfield, moved to California then back to American Fork/Lehi. He served at Mutual Dell LDS Recreation Camp for the 14 years that I was there.

I was so very saddened to hear about my old army buddy. Ross and I were MP’s in Berlin together. Our friendship started at Fort Gordon Ga. and lasted a life time! I feel so sorry sad for your loss as Ross was was a great guy and good friend to many. I will always remember his fun loving nature and the good old days in Berlin as Military Policemen.
