On January 18, 2022, Rose Marie Cope, 65, of Santaquin, Utah, passed away unexpectedly in her home. She returned home to her loving Heavenly Father and was reunited with the love of her life Brent, after a brief 10 month separation.
Rose was born on October 21, 1956 in Lewiston, Idaho to Ross and Nahyda (Pat) Chandler. She was the fourth of eight children. In her early childhood they moved to several different towns before settling down in St. Maries, Idaho at the age of 9. When Rose was 11 years of age, she joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on June 29, 1968. She participated in her high school choir and graduated from St. Maries High School in May of 1975.
In January of 1977 she married Richard Mills and later that year had Trinity Sue. They later divorced. In November of 1980, Rose attended the Seattle Temple dedication where she met Brent on the bus; this is where their courtship began. They later married on March 7, 1981, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. They were then sealed for time and all eternity on March 17, 1982 in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Both Rose and Brent came from large families so it came as no surprise that they went on to have four more children; Kevin, Jennifer, Stephen and Amber. In 1983, Rose followed her husband Brent to Fort Campbell, Kentucky where he served in the United States Army. When Brent was discharged in 1986, they returned to Idaho for a short period of time before moving to Utah for work. In 1989 they settled and raised their family in Santaquin, Utah.
Throughout Rose’s working career, she held different jobs to help support her family. She and Brent enjoyed doing early morning paper routes together. She always enjoyed working with people and the public. In late 2007, she medically retired from the workforce due to an injury.
In 1996, she became a Grandma, or as she liked to go by, Nana. By May 2021, she and Brent had 13 grandchildren. She became a Great Nana in October of 2021 just before her 65th birthday.
Rose’s grandchildren were the light of her life. She enjoyed spending time with them every chance she got. She loved doing crafts, puzzles, jewelry making and playing with them. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and reading. Rose also loved doing genealogy alongside her husband.
Rose is survived by her children, Trinity Lawrence, Kevin Cope, Jennifer (Bodie) Humphrey, Stephen (Janie) Cope and Amber Cope; her grandchildren, Katrina Lawrence, Cassandra Lawrence, Justin Nixon, Jace Nixon, David Lawrence, James Brinkerhoff, Rylee Cope, Rosslyn Cope, Christian Humphrey, Kenzie Cope, Jax Humphrey, Casey Humphrey; her great-granddaughter Renn Nixon; her siblings, Carl (Grace) Richter, Julie Humann, Millie (Brent) Christensen, Ralph (Carol) Chandler, Susan Hewson, Tina Chandler and Robert (Kathy) Chandler.
She is preceded in death by her husband Brent De Cope; son-in-law, Jacob Alma Lawrence; grandson, BrentLee Charles Humphrey; her parents; Ross Gordon Chandler and Nahyda Catherine Chandler; and brother-in-law, Edwin O Humann.
A funeral service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located at 548 South 400 East in Santaquin, Utah at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2022. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. There will also be a viewing on Friday, January 28, 2022 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 587 South 100 West, Payson, Utah.
