Ronnie Darrell Branagan, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, returned peacefully to his Heavenly Father on January 31, 2026, in Salem, Utah. He was 76 years old.
Ronnie was born on September 12, 1949, in Spanish Fork, Utah, to Ronald and Shirley Branagan. He was one of five children, with brothers Michael and Steven and sisters Patricia and Susan. From his earliest days, Ronnie carried an independent and adventurous spirit, delighting in baseball, sports, and outdoor activities throughout his childhood. He graduated from Spanish Fork High School and spent the majority of his working life in the coal mines near Price, Utah.
Ronnie served in many roles during his career, including that of supervisor, where he took great pride in ensuring the safety of those he worked alongside. He was proud to be part of a hard-working team of men and women and remained dedicated to his work despite the toll it took. His strong work ethic and sense of responsibility were qualities he carried throughout his life.
Ronnie married Jessica Thomas in 1972, and together they welcomed a son, Jeremy, in December of 1973. They later divorced, and Ronnie went on to marry Shirley Lunceford on December 13, 1977, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He built a life with Shirley in Spanish Fork, Utah, where they welcomed a son, Dirk, in 1980, and a daughter, Tiffany, in 1983. They later built their dream home in Salem, Utah, where they spent the rest of their lives together, standing side by side through thick and thin.
Ronnie’s greatest joy was found in the outdoors of Utah, spending countless hours hunting, fishing, and camping with family and friends at Scofield Reservoir and in the surrounding mountains. Many cherished weekends were spent there with his father, uncles, brothers, kids, and grandchildren. At home, Ronnie was always busy working in the yard, fixing vehicles, or repairing anything that needed attention—there was very little he couldn’t fix. He loved watching and attending sports, especially the New York Yankees, the San Francisco 49ers, and his beloved Utah Utes.
Ronnie was also known for his great sense of humor and infectious personality. He loved to laugh, tease, and tell stories, and he had a way of lighting up a room. Often the life of the party, Ronnie made people feel welcome, comfortable, and entertained, leaving behind memories filled with laughter that will be cherished forever.
Later in life, Ronnie found deep joy in being a grandfather. He took great pride in watching his grandchildren succeed and loved helping guide them as they grew into strong, self-sufficient individuals.
Ronnie is survived by his children: Jeremy Branagan of Sandy, Utah; Dirk Branagan of Lehi, Utah; and Tiffany Branagan of Salem, Utah; as well as six treasured grandchildren: Kyle, Jensen, Tristan, Tytan, Vivien, and Charlize.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Branagan, and his siblings Michael, Steven, Patricia, and Susan Branagan.
Ronnie’s legacy is one of love, hard work, devotion, and laughter. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will forever cherish the warmth, humor, strength, and love he brought into their lives.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. at Salem City Cemetery, located at 965 South 130 East in Salem, Utah.
