Roger Alan Lowe, Sr, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home in Salem, Utah, on Tuesday, February 7, 2023. He was born June 2, 1955, in Spanish Fork, Utah to Dean Lowe and Wanda Wing.
Growing up Roger was always standing up for the little guy. Because he was always standing up for them, he decided he needed the
advantage. He began to study and become very proficient in karate. Roger attended Spanish Fork High School. Realizing that Roger would not have enough credit to graduate, the principal offer Roger a deal. If Roger would put on a karate demonstration, he would allow him to graduate. From what I hear, Roger put on a heck of a karate and earned his diploma.
One day Roger had his Jeep stolen and while looking for it, ran into Teresa Soto. Roger fell for her however she was not impressed by him. Teresa did not know a lot of English and Roger knew no Spanish however their relationship began. When Roger asked Teresa to marry him, there are rumors that he needed a translator to do it. On December 2, 1977, in Orem, Utah Roger, and Teresa were married. Together, they raised their six children in Salem, Utah.
Roger chose a career as a miner. He decided he wanted his kids to live in the Utah County area however all of the
jobs were in Price, Utah. Roger made the decision to drive every day from Salem to Price and back. Chances are that if your car broke down on the highway in Spanish Fork Canyon between 1979 and 2012, a long-haired hippie named Roger Lowe stopped to help you.
When he wasn’t working long hours in the coal mines, or on the road to and from his job, he enjoyed anything outdoors: fishing, hunting, camping, golfing, and he liked karate and bowling; but especially he enjoyed spending time with his family. He also liked teaching others how to work on cars, and basically just liked helping other people. He was really the one who taught MacGyver to be MacGyver and he did it with black tape. Roger was a master of “fix-it.” He could figure out what was broken or wrong with something and get it back working with whatever he could find at hand.
Roger was such a giving person. He would never pass up a broken-down car, a person in need, or someone who needed a home. Even on the last day in his physical body, his home was opened to his niece and her family of 10. Roger always cared about those around him and truly worried about them. Although Roger had all of his normal functions taken away from him as M.S.A. took control of his life, he never had a bad thing to say and ALWAYS carried a smile. There was no doubt if you walked through his door you were greeted with a smile and a hug.
Roger has so many great friends who would always come to visit including all those coal miners who came from Price, Utah just to see Roger. There is no doubt when his friends came he was filled with joy.
Roger is survived by his Honey, Teresa; his mom Wanda Wing, and his children: Cindy Fairholm of Salem, Utah; Roger Jr. (Christy) of Salem, Utah; Adam (Caitlin) of Sandy, Utah; Kris (Carissa) of Provo, Utah; Kasey of Salem, Utah; and Marisela (Tyler Nelson) of Santaquin,
Utah. He is also survived by his most loved seven grandchildren; as well as his siblings: Stephen Lowe, Diana Peterson, Karen Morrell, Ron Wing, and Jana Wing. He is preceded in death by his father, Dean Lowe; son-in-law, Troy Fairholm; his friend, Bryan King; his step-mom, Laurel Lowe; his grandma, Edith Tyrrell; and his parents-in-law, Manuel Soto and Lilia Sosa.
A visitation will be Friday evening, February 10, 2023, where family and friends may gather from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Salem downtown LDS Church, 60 South Main Street, Salem, Utah 84653, A second viewing, also at the church, will be Saturday morning, February 11, 2023, from 9:45 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. Funeral Service will follow in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Salem City Cemetery, 979 South 130 East, Salem, Utah 84653

February 9, 2023 at 9:07 pmI have so many great memories of Roger. He was one of the kindest people I know and always had a smile for everyone. One of the memories I have is falling out of the back of his Jeep !! We went over a big bump in Salem and I flew out. I didn’t get hurt, but it was a fun time for all of us. RIP dear Roger.

February 10, 2023 at 8:00 pmI first met Roger on December 2 1989. My first look at him reminded of Bruce Lee later getting to know him I was overwhelmed that he was best at Karate. It was exciting for me as I loved Bruce Lee then in my teens coming from India.
Every week end our routine was to stop by Roger place as his wife and my wife were sisters. We would have dinner watch movies on VCR those were the beautiful day’s memories of Roger still green in my mind and always will be until we meet soon again. Time and space might temporarily keep us apart but memories imprinted in my mind and heart reunites and it’s like Roger never left.
