Robert Lynn “Bob” Chatterton December 8, 1936 - November 27, 2022

Robert Lynn Chatterton, known as Bob, passed away at home in Payson, Utah, November 27, 2022, just a week short of his 86th birthday.  He was born December 8, 1936, in Salt Lake City, Utah, a son of Marlin Lynn Chatterton and Sarah Guinevere “Gwen” Burch Chatterton. He had one brother, Glenn Russell Chatterton. Bob served his country in the US Army Reserve during the Vietnam War era.

Bob attended the University of Utah as a pre-med student.  After college, he decided to go into a career in retail becoming an assistant manager for K-Mart; and then became a director for the State of Utah.

Bob married Donna Louise Butterfield in Las Vegas, Nevada, August 26, 1963.  He adored her and they were married for 59 years.  They were sealed in the Salt Lake Utah Temple, along with their family, for time and eternity. He considered his greatest blessings to be his wife and two daughters, Shannon and Kathryn; then additionally his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He had a great affinity for dancing, which he did from a young age.  He was a well-known professional tap and jazz dancer in Utah.  He taught those disciplines from the time he was fifteen until he was 23 years old.  He wrote books on nutrition and diet, as well as a novel on Porter Rockwell.  He also wrote a stage play and produced it at Kingsbury Hall in Salt Lake City, about Porter Rockwell’s life with Joseph Smith.

A favorite pastime he enjoyed was fishing at Rockport Lake and Strawberry Reservoir, catching many fish, and then loved frying them to eat.  He liked gardening; and, of course, music and dance.  He was an avid sports fan especially loving BYU and Boise football.

Bob is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a 2nd Counselor in a bishopric for five years, as well as serving a stake mission with his wife.

Bob’s family would like him to be remembered for his love of animals, including his beloved horse, Trooper, along with several and sundry cats, one of which, Bella at age 5, will keep Donna company now.

Surviving Bob are his cherished wife, Donna; and his daughters, Shannon (Kevin) Colver of Payson, Utah; and Kathy (Kim) Hugie of Wanship, Utah; as well as 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Marlin Lynn and Gwen Chatterton; his brother, Glenn Russell Chatterton; and by two great grandchildren, Kendall Ann and Adelynn Pearl Colver.
