Robert Gene Chappel April 1, 1953 - June 7, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Gene Chappel. He passed away unexpectedly on June 7th, 2023 at the age of 70 due to cardiac arrest. Bob was born April 1st, 1953 in Spanish Fork Utah to Edward Gene Chappel and Nola Benson. The oldest of 3 children, Bob grew up in Spanish Fork and Payson. He graduated high school from Payson Utah.

He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in West Virginia and South Carolina. He has since served as Ward Mission Leader, Ward Clerk, Stake Baptismal Coordinator, and Primary Teacher.

He was a loving and kind son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather who always put the needs of others first. He loved attending dance recitals, piano recitals and sporting events that his children and grandchildren have participated in.

He worked for Sears in Provo, Utah and later moved to St. George where he owned and managed three Blimpie stores. He trained and taught individuals at Deseret Industries by helping them acquire skills for future employment. His last job before retirement was an Insurance Adjuster for Purco in Spanish Fork Utah.

Bob loved going fishing and recently went to Alaska on a guided fishing trip. He enjoyed cooking, traveling, four wheeling rides with his wife, attending theatrical performances, watching BYU football, and Hallmark movies. Bob was extremely tenderhearted and was always willing to help a stranger in need. He was an avid storyteller and could recall so many fun childhood memories. Being born on April Fool’s Day, Bob was the king of practical jokes. He had a great sense of humor and could spread joy through laughter everywhere he went. He enjoyed his grandchildren and loved to tease and play with them to get as many smiles and laughs he could get.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edward Gene Chappel and Nola Chappel, his inlaws Howard and Joyce Creer and grandparents. He will be sorely missed by his wife Patty Creer Chappel, siblings Gary Chappel and Lori Burton, and children Tiffanie (Justin) Taylor, Camron (Stephanie) Chappel, Nikole (Aaron) Combs, Brittany (Josh) Laub, Mckay Chappel, and Jacquelyn (Wyatt) Smith. And by his step children Kellie Kerecman, Kristine (Adam) Asay, Kyle (Emily) Kerecman, and Clay (McKenzie) Kerecman. As well as his 14 grandchildren and 9 step grandchildren.

I grew up across the street from Robert. Nola was my mom’s good friend. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. My mom passed away a few days ago. It is hard.

I will miss Bob so much. We loved him from the first time he came to dinner at our house! I love his ready laugh and willingness to help with anything. There will be an empty place at all our family gatherings!!! But Heaven will feel a bit closer 🙏🏻❤️❤️. And I’ll continue to be thankful that he raised such beautiful daughter. He loved his family. And I’m happy that our families are connected eternally. I love you Nikole.
