Robert Carl Prody was born in Dubois, Pennsylvania on February 8, 1957 and was the 2nd child of Robert Harry Prody and Mildred Joann
Youngren. He peacefully graduated from this life after a 6 year battle with cancer at the home of his oldest daughter, in Pleasant Grove, Utah on March 2, 2024. He was surrounded by loved ones when he passed. Fun fact, he was born during a snowstorm and died during a snowstorm! We think he planned that!
Rob’s early life was spent in Lakemont, PA. He was heavily involved with Boy Scouts, along with his younger brother Randy. At the age of 12, his family made the big move to Inglewood, CA. His family had a wonderful neighbor, whom they called Grandma Rogers, who told them about the local boy scout troop. It just so happened to be a troop that was chartered by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. There he met lifelong friends who would change his and his family’s lives forever. At the age of 14, Rob was baptized a member of the church. His little brother and sister were baptized the same day. His parents and older sister followed their example not too long after.
Rob graduated from Inglewood High School in 1975. He attended Rick’s College in Rexburg, Idaho and then served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Fort Lauderdale, Florida mission. He loved serving in multiple capacities in his church.
Rob enjoyed playing football and baseball, riding dirt bikes, flying airplanes, surfing, scuba diving, horseback riding, team roping, building and doing electrical, working on cars (he could fix just about everything), shooting and hunting, riding motorcycles and most of all: spending time with his family! He was married to Leanne Johnson on November 14, 1980, in the Los Angeles Temple and resided in Southern California. They were blessed with 5 children: Crystal, Tera, Robert LeGrande, Jessica, and Amanda. During this time Rob worked as a Deputy for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. He loved being a cop, and he was good at it! He received many awards, including the Deputy Sherrif of the Year and the Meritorious Service Award. Due to injury, he had to retire in 1993, but he never forgot the amazing experiences he had while serving with the incredible men and women of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. He spoke of them often, even in the final few months and weeks of his life. Rob and his first wife were divorced in Jan 1994. Rob and his children then moved to Spanish Fork, Utah. On June 14, 1997 he married Carolyn Birdsall Howell and added her 5 children to his family: Jessica, Darren, Dan, Mitch, and Rochelle. They lived in Salem and then Springville, Utah. They later divorced in November 2021, but remained good friends.
Rob’s final career was working at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah as a security guard. To say he loved working there was an understatement! The people he met and the memories he made were precious to him. Three months before passing he was able to work security at the Festival of Trees, that raises money for Primary Children’s Hospital. This brought him so much joy!
Rob will forever be remembered for his big heart and his desire to serve others. He loved his Savior Jesus Christ and frequently shared his testimony of Him with whomever would listen to it! He is survived by his five children: Crystal (Lee) Edwards, Tera (David) Law, Robert L (Emilia) Prody, Jessica Prody, and Amanda Prody; his sisters: Donell Larson and Denise White; his aunts: Donell Koch and Lynn Millitics; 18 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Also, his 5 stepchildren and 16 step grandchildren whom he still considered family even after divorcing their mom. He was preceded in death by his brother Randall Prody, his parents Robert H Prody and Mildred Joann Youngren, all 4 of his grandparents, and his 2 uncles.
Rob’s funeral will be held on March 9, 2024 in Salem, Ut at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints building on 1101 S 250 W. A viewing will be held there starting at 9am with the funeral following at 11am. He will then be interred at the Salem City Cemetery. His family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses who helped him at the Cancer Center at Intermountain Hospital for their tireless efforts on Rob’s behalf, especially Dr Brandon Barney and Dr David Gill. They would also like to thank Belle Vie Hospice, and especially Nicole, for the amazing care they gave to Rob during the final months of his life! They were angels and did so much to make this difficult time easier for him and his family. Until we meet again, have fun hanging out with and making up for lost time with your brother! We love you forever!

March 7, 2024 at 8:50 pmMy deepest sympathy to you all. I had the pleasure of being Rob’s insurance agent for some years and he was always such a joy to visit with, always enjoyed hearing his stories and just brought sunshine to the day. He is a man that I think of often and what a happy, kind, genuine example of a human he shared with those he crossed paths with and can never forget his smile or giggle. I will continue to think of him and his example. Sending thoughts and prayers to you all.

March 9, 2024 at 6:01 pmI’m so sorry that my BFF has moved on. I will miss his Handshakes and Hugs when I would stop by to say hello.
We bonded the first time I met him on the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department 34 years ago. We retired two years apart from the Department and still kept in touch. We worked the Winter Olympics together in 2002 in Salt Lake. Had a blast.
He was always fun to be around.
He will always be in my heart and will miss him forever.
