Richard Thomas Lynch was born on June 27, 1935 in Indianapolis Indiana. He was the first child born to Mary Margaret May and Paul Daniel Lynch. He was the oldest of nine, seven boys, and two girls. He spent those early years in Indiana and Illinois doing those things that most little boys do. All the fun things like playing ball, enjoying family and pets, picking on his younger brothers. But he was also a hard-working child helping his mom around the house and his dad on the farm. He learned the value of hard work and a dollar bill at an early age and retained those values all of his life.
He joined the Air Force in 1955 and served for 31 years. He eventually became an intelligence analyst and spent time in lots of interesting places. He loved traveling, especially his overseas assignments which gave him the opportunity to learn about different cultures and people. He spent time in Germany, England, France, Japan, Thailand, Laos and Czechoslovakia, along with stateside assignments in Texas, Nebraska, Arizona, California and Virginia.
After retiring from the Air Force, Richard worked as an IT Specialist at the Department of Labor in Washington DC for 23 years.
Early in his Air Force career while stationed in Nebraska, he married and eventually had two daughters. Ultimately, this marriage ended in divorce. His oldest daughter, Carol, and her five daughters live in Utah. His youngest daughter, Samantha, lives in California. Her four children live in Utah.
Richard married Shirley Anne Yocom in September 1971 after meeting her while she was working as a civilian for the Air Force in Japan.
Richard is survived by his wife of 51 years, Shirley; daughters, Carol and Samantha; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; brothers, Jerry(Scottie), Mike (Michele), Danny (Marcia), Jimmy (Nancy), Jack (Theresa); sisters, Sandra (Rex) and Jan; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Dave (Peggy).
A Service of Death and Resurrection to Celebrate Richard’s life will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at two o’clock at the Springville Community Presbyterian Church in Springville, Utah.
