Rayburn Edsel Day October 19, 1931 - September 25, 2021

Rayburn E. Day, age 89, passed away peacefully in his home, September 25, 2021. He was born in Jolo, West Virginia, on October 19, 1931, to Walter and Viola Day. He graduated from Pineville High School in 1950 where he lettered in football. Growing up, he was known as Eddy or Edsel; as an adult, he was known as Ray.

Rayburn met the love of his life, Patricia Bowman, in 1948, and they were married October 4, 1952. He graduated from Marshall University in 1956. He served our country in the United States Army and is a veteran of the Korean War. He was a manager in the Kresge/Kmart Corporation for 31 years. He and his family moved quite often for his employment, which included West Virginia, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina. Rayburn and Patricia retired to Harkers Island, North Carolina, in 1987.  As their children all moved to Utah, they eventually followed and made their home in Elk Ridge.

Rayburn was an avid football fan and spent many hours following his favorite teams: Marshall University, West Virginia, and his beloved BYU; and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Rayburn was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Viola; brother, Arbe; and his grandson, Daniel. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; his children: John, Laura, and Brian; his 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 1, 2021, at the Elk Ridge 2nd Ward Church Building, 259 East Alpine Drive, Elk Ridge, UT 84651. A visitation will be held on Thursday evening, September 30, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 587 South 100 West, Payson, Utah 84651. Another viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday morning, at the church. Interment will be in the Salem City Cemetery.
