Randy Dean Lewis, loving husband, father, son, brother and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on December 20, 2021, from complications due to illness. He was born October 10, 1950, to Dean R. and Esther Loween Lewis of American Fork, Utah.
Randy attended American Fork High School and graduated in 1968. While in high school, he enojoyed working on the football coaching staff.
Randy was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a two year mission for the church in the Venezuela Caracas Mission from 1971 to 1973. He had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and through his example he showed how important the Savior is to all he came in contact with. Throughout his life he was a man of integrity, honor and quiet dignity.
After returning from his mission, he attended Brigham Young University as well as Salt Lake Community College.
In the Fall of 1973, he met the love of his life, Shirley Mecham. As their relationship developed it was clear that their love was special. They were sealed on December 6, 1974 in the Salt Lake City Temple. Throughout their life they spent as many precious moments together as they could. Theirs was a love like those found in fairy tales. This year they celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary.
Family was very important in his life. Together they lovingly raised nine children. He gave everything he had to guide them in the ways of truth. He loved going on camping trips and so many other excursions with them.
Randy served in the Utah National Guard from 1969 to 1983. He achieved the rank of Sergeant First-Class and was an Interrogator in the 142nd Military Intelligence Linguistics Battalion. He had a passionate love for his country and for him it was an honor to serve.
Randy had an immense love for music and had opportunities to lead many church choirs. His unrealized dream was to direct The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square. We now know he will lead the choirs of Heaven.
Randy faithfully served in the Jordan River temple for several years until his health would not allow him to continue.
Randy is survived by his wife, Shirley Ruth Mecham Lewis; and his children: Diona Lewis of Provo, Jameson (Julia) Lewis of West Valley City, Shandy Lewis of West Jordan, Marcus Lewis of Sandy, Kariima Lewis of Provo, Tasia Lewis and Shalyna Lewis of Lehi, Kayla (Stephen) Booth of West Valley and Katina (Sione Misa Ngaluma’a) Taumohaapai of Lehi; as well as 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Connie (David) Simms of Cedar Hills, Utah; his brother, Dr. David (Karen) Lewis of Jonesboro, Arkansas; and his brother, Dr. Ted Lewis of Indianapolis, Indiana. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Esther and Dean Lewis.
Visitation will be held Monday, December 27, 2021, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 7265 South 2700 West, West Jordan, Utah. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at the same church. Visitation will be held prior from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. A graveside service with military honors will be in American Fork City Cemetery, 26 West 600 North, American Fork, Utah, at 2:30 pm.
Our family would like to give special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Thoracic Intensive Care Unit at Intermountain Medical Center for all of their care and compassion shown to our father during the last days of his life.

December 26, 2021 at 2:26 pmI knew Brother Lewis as a neighbor, home teacher, choir director and always a missionary. I remember hearing his testimony of Jesus Christ. He was a good example to me. My heart hurts for his beloved family who will miss him until they meet again. What a glorious day that will be. The Leary family prays for you to be wrapped in the arms of the Comforter at this time.
