Ralph Glazier Mitchell died on Sunday, July 21, 2024 in Spanish Fork, Utah. He had just turned 96 years old.
Ralph was born to David Richard Mitchell and Martha Glazier on July 12, 1928 in Lehi, Utah. He was the youngest of four children. Ralph grew up having many adventures in Lehi, including swimming, ice skating, and sledding. He worked thinning sugar beets and picking apples and peaches and irrigating alfalfa on the family farm. He loved and participated in many sports, including playing basketball and football, and running track for Lehi High School.
After graduating from Lehi High School, Ralph studied accounting at the University of Utah. After graduation, Ralph began working for US Steel in Orem.
Ralph met Beverlee Winegar in 1945 while still in high school. They were married in September of 1949. Ralph and Beverlee had three girls, Cheryl, Michelle and Shauna. Ralph and Beverlee lived in Lehi and Dragerton (East Carbon City). They were married for 9 years.
Ralph then married Eilene Draper in June of 1960. They had two children, Claudia and Ralph, Jr. Ralph and Eilene lived in Orem and Price. They were married for 15 years.
Ralph met Anne Barton and they were married in June of 1976 and later sealed in the Mesa Arizona Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ralph was welcomed warmly into Anne’s family which includes Anne’s six children, Allan, Deanna, Cindy, Scott, Sandy, and Matt.
Ralph was very proud of his career with US Steel. He was of the old-school generation who exhibited loyalty and worked for the same company for his entire career. He started as a laborer in 1950, and retired as the General Supervisor of Accounting for the Columbia and Horse Canyon mines in southeastern Utah in 1984, a career of 33 years. He learned and grew with the company from hand-ledger accounting to modern day computers.
Ralph LOVED SPORTS. He loved to participate, watch, and talk about sports! He played and excelled in football and basketball during high school. He also played tennis, baseball, and ran track. Ralph started golfing in his early 20’s and continued playing into his 80’s. He also enjoyed racquetball and later learned to play and love handball. He participated for many years in the Huntsman Games (Senior Olympics). He was very competitive in whatever sport he was enjoying and won several trophies. In later years, he loved watching his children and grandchildren participate in their sports and was always an enthusiastic supporter.
One of Ralph’s greatest joys was serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Manchester England with his sweetheart, Anne. They had many wonderful experiences, ending their mission with a trip to Egypt before they returned to the United States. Soon after returning from their mission, Ralph and Anne moved to Mesa, Arizona and then Mansfield, Texas. Ralph loved their time in Texas. He felt needed and valued. He served in many Church callings, including in the Bishop’s Storehouse and Dry Pack Cannery in Mesa, Arizona, Ordinance and Baptistry worker in the Dallas Temple, and Financial Secretary in the Arlington Texas Stake. Ralph and Anne were called to serve in the Fort Worth Texas Mission Home, working to take care of missionaries’ finances and housing. They moved to Spanish Fork, Utah in 2006. They were married for almost 48 years.
