Penelope (Penny) Anne Craner, 77, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by many of her family on July 8, 2024. Penny was born on March 12, 1947, to Darwin Avon and Etta Maude Poyfair in Portland, Oregon. She was a lifelong active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1961 (age 14) she met Greg Craner at a church dance and the two were inseparable from that time forward. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan, Utah Temple on December 28, 1965.

Penny’s number one aspiration was to be a mother. She enjoyed all aspects of raising and teaching her 8 children. She was very active with the youth her whole life including teaching seminary, road shows and many summers spent at girl’s camp. She was a major influence on all the youth with whom she interacted. She was active in many church callings throughout her life. She never wavered in her testimony of the Restoration and the importance of Jesus Christ in her life and passed that on to her children and grandchildren. She always taught being a member of the church of Jesus Christ brought joy and happiness.

She loved to travel with her family and could outlast anyone at any Disney Park especially on the Teacups. She was especially attuned to the beauties of nature. She worked as a contractor, building several homes in Utah County. She served a full-time mission in Chicago Illinois with Greg.

Penny is survived by her husband Gregory Eugene Craner and 8 children and their spouses: David (Carla) Craner, Patrick (Karli) Poyfair, Scott (Dawn) Craner, Mark (Melissa) Craner, Tammy (Brandon) Halcrow, Jill (Micheal) Darrington, Matthew (Catherine) Craner, Darrin (Clarissa) Craner. Her legacy includes 37 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and thousands of others who knew her and whose lives were forever altered by the love, kindness, and simple joy that was Penny Craner.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, July 19, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel located at 902 West 400 North in Payson, Utah.

The family would like to thank Dignity Hospice for their love and care in her last few months.

I met Penny through quilting. She was always so positive and willing to help. I will treasure the quilts she quilted. I loved going to her nativity open house.
