Paul Olsen Livestream

Paul Raymond Olsen (1933 – 2024) passed away early Saturday morning Sept. 28, 2024 at Mountain View Hospital in Payson, UT.

Paul was born at home June 7, 1933 in Spanish Fork, Utah, the 10th and last child born to Joseph Michael Olsen and Rhoda Myrl Robertson Olsen. His childhood was spent near his grandparents Hans and Sena Katrina Olsen and David and Rhoda Emily Robertson.

As a boy Paul learned hard work was the order of each day. The family dined mostly on what they raised on their Spanish Fork farm. It was an exciting day when in-door plumbing arrived, and no one needed to use the outhouse anymore.

Paul’s love of hunting and fishing was developed for subsistence, not for sport.

On Mar. 2, 1955 Paul married a dark haired beautiful girl from the other side of town. Her name was Jane Ann Bradford.

Their marriage was performed in the Salt Lake Temple for Time and all Eternity. Their union was blessed with 6 children; Randy (Tonya) Olsen, Kristine (David) Butler, Ronny (Laurie) Olsen, Stephen (Michelle) Olsen, Danny Olsen and Laura Ann (Duane) Barney.

At Paul’s death he and Jane Ann have 20 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.

After Jane Ann’s death heaven sent Paul a 2nd wonderful companion. On Oct. 7, 2008 Paul was married to Nadine Loy Robbins. Their golden years have been filled with Temple service, Church attendance, Family History, Sheep, Chickens, Orchards, Canning and never ending Family events.

Paul attended Spanish Fork High School where he was a punishing, running back on the football team. The first time Jane Ann ever heard of Paul Olsen was as a 9th grader attending a football game listening to spectators chanting “Bally Olsen”. Paul graduated in 1951.

After graduating from High School, he joined the U.S. Army 2nd Infantry Division assigned to Fort Lewis, Washington. He ultimately graduated from Army Drill Sergeant school obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant and trained soldiers at Fort Lewis, Washington during the Korean War. Paul’s service in the military along with the service of his older brothers has imbued him with a great love for the United States of America.

After his military service, Paul attended Utah State University obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree. His English professors complimented him on his young wife’s writing abilities.

He then went on to study at the Washington University School of Dentistry in St. Louis, Missouri where he obtained a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree followed by an additional 2 years of study to become board certified in orthodontics by the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO).

After graduating as an Orthodontist Paul, Jane Ann, Randy and Kristine moved to California where a miracle allowed Paul to buy an Orthodontic practice in Napa, CA. For the next 16 years Paul built a hugely successful practice. His powerful yet highly coordinated hands, his welcoming demeanor and business acumen made Paul R. Olsen Orthodontics flourish.

Many patients discovered that the highly educated doctor had not lost the empathy gained as the 10th child at a bread and milk dinner table. Braces were sometimes paid for with livestock, guns, pictures, furniture and other tradeable items. Many times orthodontic treatment was performed for no payment.

Ronny, Stephen, Danny and Laura Ann all joined the Napa Olsen’s during these years. In 1979 Paul and Jane Ann moved the family to Salem, UT. Paul once again established a successful practice in Spanish Fork and Payson, UT.

Paul loved the sheep industry. He had numerous Grand Champion Lambs as a young man. As soon as his children were of age he resumed his sheep husbandry and won many ribbons and metals at Northern California shows.

Daddy didn’t have hobbies. His children were his hobby. Whatever a child could dream, Daddy could make happen. He did accept all challengers as an Arm wrestler and never lost except to his brother Lawrence.

Paul was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in numerous callings and especially loved being a Scout Master. His young scouts found that their search for wild excitement was equaled or exceeded by their Scout Master.

Paul received all the ordinances of salvation and kept the covenants he made with Jesus Christ. He has fought the good fight, he has finished his course, he has kept the faith.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Myrl, his son Danny, his wife Jane Ann and each of his 7 brothers and 2 sisters.

Our family gathered every Sunday night at Paul and Jane Ann’s home for home made ice cream for many years. They always opened their home and we loved spending time with their six children. We have remained close to them over these many years and consider them to be some of our best and closest friends. RIP Paul. We are sure Jane Ann is happy to have you with her once again.

In the summer of 1998 Paul and I spent 4 days fishing In the Uintah Mountains. Paul borrowed his brother’s truck to transport two horses from Spanish Fork to Lone Tree, Wyoming. We parked the truck at the trailhead in Lone Tree, unloaded the horses and packed our gear 5 miles along a primitive trail into the mountains of the beautiful Uintah National Forest. We camped in a beautiful meadow by a small stream of water. We fished for 4 days. Paul was an expert fisherman. He caught one of the biggest fish I had ever seen. I told Paul the only thing we needed was the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. It was an experience I’ll always remember. I love Paul Olsen

Paul Olsen was a good man. He was a brother and friend to me. One of my favorite memories of Paul is seeing him diaper three baby/toddlers in a fast military style routine. Other favorite memories are the closeness of our families on Montecito Boulevard and Thanksgiving hikes in California and Utah which always included the 5 kernels of corn.
Paul trusted us to tell us first about his marriage to Nadine. We have remained close to Paul and Nadine. They even came and stayed at our house and attended a performance at the Utah Festival Opera. We send our love to all of Paul Olsen’s family. Joyce Bradford
