Paul Brent Voorhees, 71, of Spanish Fork, Utah passed away on August 28, 2023. He was born on April 6, 1952, in Salt Lake City, Utah to his parents Lynn Madsen Voorhees and Pauline Priscilla Slade.
He grew up in the Springville and Mapleton areas. Brent attended Springville High School, graduating in 1970. He continued his education at BYU where he graduated with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering in 1975. He married his sweetheart, Ilene Tucker, on September 10, 1976, in the Salt Lake City Temple. They raised their six children together: Stacey, Tara, Amber, Chelsea, Erica, and Tyler.
Brent worked for 22 years as an engineer for Valtec/Flowserve and then at DeltaValve. He was affectionately known as “Dr. Voorhees” having acquired two patents on valves he designed. He retired in 2019.
Brent made it a priority to spend time with family and friends, where he showed his love and kindness to everyone he came in contact with. He was a talented artist who used his creativity to make drawings, pencil sketches, as well as drafting house plans. He was mechanically inclined and would be found working on cars as well as projects around the home. He was a great handy man who could fix anything, and he was always taking care of those projects for family and friends. He always worked hard and was courageous to take on new projects. Other hobbies include playing golf, grilling delicious food, camping and going on side-by-side rides with his wife and friends. But most of all he loved playing his guitar and sharing that talent at family parties for everyone to sing along to our favorite songs. In his youth he played the keyboard in the rock and roll band called “Soul Kitchen.” He was a great baseball player.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was honored to have served in many positions in the church. Brent served in many callings including a full-time missionary for the church in Peru, in the bishopric, as Elders Quorum President, as the Sunday School President, and as a temple ordinance worker as the baptistry coordinator. He had a beautiful testimony and loved serving and sharing the gospel with those around him.
Brent is survived by his dear wife, Ilene; their children: Stacey Salmond (BJ), Tara Flynn (Dan), Amber Dunford (Steve), Chelsea Doxey (Daniel), Erica Voorhees, Tyler Brent Voorhees; and 23 grandchildren whom he adored. He is also survived by his siblings: Vickie Johnston (Larry), Janet Burton (Lawrence), Teresa Clements (Bill), and David Voorhees (DeAnne). He is preceded in death by his parents, Lynn and Pauline, as well as a dear niece, Kellie Gandy.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 2, 2023, at the Wolf Hollow First Ward Chapel, 870 East Canyon Road, Spanish Fork, Utah 84660. There will be two visitations, where family and friends may gather, both of which will be at the church: Friday evening, September 1, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and Saturday morning, 10:00 a.m.- 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral. The funeral will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning. Interment will be at Spanish Fork City Cemetery, 420 South 400 East, Spanish Fork, Utah.

August 31, 2023 at 2:54 pmWe are so sad for the loss of Uncle Brent. I remember so many family gatherings at his home, surrounded by delicious food, singing, and great conversation—I especially loved his Donald Duck version of “Shaving Cream”. He always had a big hug and encouraging words for me, his niece, no matter how many years had passed since our last hug. He is an important part of our family and we love him very much. Our hearts reach out to Ilene and each of their children and grandchildren. We love you all! What a legacy he left 💗

September 6, 2023 at 3:49 pmBrent was one of my first friends when I moved to Springville from Chicago in 1967. We were in the same ward. He always made me laugh. Especially when we were supposed to be “reverent” when we were passing the Sacrament! 🤪 he will be missed. George Hampton
