Clinton Paul Bowler, son of a potato farmer, was born on September 10, 1953 in Cedar City, Utah to Clinton Page and Dorinne Jensen Bowler. Paul grew up in a loving home in Enterprise, Utah, learned to work hard on the farm, and always loved having a great time! He attended school in Enterprise and was known for his skills on the basketball court and especially his speed. He excelled in track and ran in high school (even held his school’s record for the 1 mile) and later at Southern Utah University. While in high school he was also known for driving his beloved Camaro SS around town with massive speakers blaring tunes. He LOVED music – ranging from Fleetwood Mac to Beach Boys to John Staccata and the Beatles.
His love for and faith in Jesus Christ played a large role in his life. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Japan Fukuoka mission where he developed a love for the Japanese people, language, and culture. After his mission he attended Brigham Young University and graduated with Bachelor’s degrees in Japanese and Asian Studies. While in college he met his future wife Christyn Rodgers at a Family Home Evening group. Paul impressed her with his good looks and fancy dressing (bell bottoms) and they were married in the Salt Lake temple December 29, 1977. Their first child was born the next year and after college graduation he moved his family to Japan to take a job with SanRio (Hello Kitty company!) where they lived for 4 years and added 2 more children (1 daughter and 1 son) to their family before returning to the United States and shortly after a 4th child was born in Salt Lake City, UT.
They settled in Kirkland, WA where he worked in sales and language translation for other Nintendo game companies and then later worked for Lake Washington school district as a custodian. He loved the children and playing at recess. Although not his dream job, he had a smile on his face and a positive attitude about the challenges of life. Paul loved BYU athletics – especially football and volleyball. He was always up for an NBA jam tournament, cul – de – sac basketball or wiffleball game, or volleyball at the church with his kids, and 4 square with his grandkids! Homemade bottled rootbeer and many flavors of homemade ice cream were some of his favorite treats to make for friends and family. He would do anything for his kids and grandkids including sporting multi-colored toenails to delight his granddaughters.
He served cheerfully and lovingly in many church callings – early morning seminary teacher, ward mission leader, bishopric member, and was always willing to share his thoughts and opinions in many lessons. Paul was always known for a lengthy prayer, but he loved communicating with His Heavenly Father. After spending 32 years in Washington, he and his wife Christyn had recently retired and moved back to Utah to be closer to family and were building a home in Spanish Fork, UT.
Paul is survived by his beloved wife and best friend Christyn (Crick to him) his children Colin (Cori) Bowler of Covington, WA; Erin (Jeremy) Maughan of Spanish Fork, UT; Ryan (Amanda) Bowler of Salem, UT; and Blake (Kelsie) Bowler of Great Falls, MT, his 16 grandchildren, his brother Marc, and sisters Phyllis and Margilee. He was preceded in death by his parents.
We will miss his example of service and love and look forward to when we can be with him again!
Memorial services will be held Friday, September 18th at 12 p.m. at the Salem Stake Center, 470 East Salem Canal Road, Salem, UT. A viewing will be held prior from 10:30-11:45 a.m. Interment will follow at the Salem City Cemetery.

September 18, 2020 at 6:49 pmWe were so sad to hear about Paul. I remember teasing him calling him a “white shirt” when he served in the high council and would visit our ward because inevitably the visit meant changes… he would smile and laugh! We remember Paul as kind, caring and positive – what a good man. Wishing you peace and comfort in wonderful memories. CarolLee & Gerald Twitchell
