Norman Skiba Livestream Broadcast

Norman John Skiba was born May 6, 1951, in Claresholm, Alberta, Canada, to Julius John and Ruth Shideler Skiba. He passed away on Feb. 6, 2026 in Springville, UT.

Norm moved to Provo, UT, when he was 7 years old, so his Dad could attend BYU. He grew up in Provo, graduating from Provo High, and was always proud of being a Provo High Bulldog.

He served a church mission to London, England. Norm married Jonean Hill Dec.1, 1972, in Spanish Fork, UT. They were sealed in the Provo Temple Dec. 1, 1973. They were blessed with 2 sons and 2 daughters, John, Todd, Summer and Jill.

When Norm was 12 years old, he was in a truck accident with the Boy Scouts in southern Utah. Several boys, the scout leader, and others were killed. Norm was pinned under the truck for several hours, injuring his leg. This accident changed his life. The injury caused many surgeries and a lot of pain throughout his life, but he never let it stop him from doing whatever he wanted. He went on hikes with the scouts on crutches, hiked to the Y, and hiked to Timp Cave on crutches with his kids. He used a cane for so many years that his thumbprint is indented in the wood.

Norm loved the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings, Sunday school teacher, high priest group leader, executive secretary, counselor in the Bishopric, and high councilman in a YSA stake, which he loved, but his all-time favorite was scout leader. He loved the boys, especially the little trouble makers, because he could relate.

Norm loved cars, especially old cars, really anything to do with cars. He loved car shows and car magazines and could tell you everything about anything under the hood of any car. He loved sand dune trips with family and friends and built his own dune buggy in 1973. Which he still owns. He loved that his grandsons could drive it now.

He worked in auto repair most of his life, starting at his Dad’s Chevron station on University Ave. in Provo when he was 10 years old, then P.E. Ashton, Timp Mazda, Enterprise Auto, Pro Litho, RR Donnelly.

Later, he had a shop on Ironton hill. In 1998, he opened Skiba Auto on Main Street in Spanish Fork with his son and business partner, Todd. He loved working with Todd and other family members every day. He loved when the grand-kids worked there, and he could tell them they needed to be on time or say, “If you don’t have anything to do, I will find you something to do, “and “get off your phone.” He retired last year and missed it every day. He was a hard worker his whole life.

Family was everything to Norm. He was the best husband, always thinking of Jo before himself, right down to his last days, wanting to know if there was gas in the car or money in the bank. When she brought him food, he would say, “What about you?” or “You need to sit down and rest.”

He loved his kids and took great pride in the good people they are, and in return, the kids showed their love for him, especially this last year when he struggled so much with health issues. When each of the kids married, he took on these 4 bonus kids and thought of Jessica, Jamie, Steve, and Chase as his own.

The grandkids were like the icing on top of the cake. These 11 girls and 5 boys were each so special to him. He loved them so much and tried to spend one-on-one time with each of them. Last April, the first great-grandchild was born – this sweet little girl brought a smile to his face.

Norm and Jo had many adventures throughout 53 years. Many sand dune family trips, a couple of Canada trips, several Quartsite winter trips in the motorhome with friends. In the last few years, going to get a Pepsi, watching a movie, just being together.

He loved driving around the neighborhood on his scooter with his dog, visiting with whoever was outside. If it’s true dogs you have in life meet you in heaven, then Norm is getting his face licked by Lady, Joedog, Holly, and Gucci. His dog Penny is missing him now.

Norm was a Canadian all his life, even though he had lived in the U.S. since he was a young boy. He considered himself to be a Canadian / American. He was a permanent U.S. resident but never gave up his citizenship from the country where he was born. He always carried his alien card in his wallet.

Norm is loved by so many, especially his wife of 53 years, Jonean (Jo), his children John (Jessica), Todd (Jamie), Summer (Stephen Jones), and Jill (Chase O’Bannon). He is also survived by his brother Mark Skiba and his sister Joyce Shelton.

He is preceded in death by his parents and many friends who he missed so much.

We are so thankful to know we will be together again.

Love You Most

Norm it has been such a pleasure not only going to Provo High, with you but having you in Spanish Fork. I knew when I saw the Skiba sign that it had to be you. You have taken care of my family’s cars since day one. I loved chuckling about you telling me it’s really time to get a new car, my husband would never think about what was wrong with his trick or my car because what ever it was you had our backs always, I have missed seeing you the last couple of cars ago can’t remember anyone ever saying anything except good things about you and how glad they were to find someone who took care of there cars like you always did. I remember the last laugh we had about the colors of all my cars and you said my wife only had 2 colors Red and ugly. Well I always agreed because mine were always red. Bless you Norm and your family for being who you are my friend, we will see you again at my next graduation.

    Dear Skiba Family,
I was saddened deeply to learn of Norm’s passing. He was a true friend. Such an honest man. He has taken care of my vehicles for over 25 years. Always told me what was wrong and then repaired the vehicle. I could always trust Skiba Auto.
I will miss our discussions while the work was being done.
May The Lord bless you all at this time. His passing leaves a huge void in the lives of many people.

    To the Skiba Family:
Norm was a great friend and an honest business man. I started using his auto mechanic shop close to 40 years ago. He has always been there to help when needed. We are all going to miss him. Over the years I was privileged to have lots of conversations with him while he was repairing my cars. He also was very helpful to my family. His family that runs the auto mechanic business have also been very helpful and good to work with. We would like to express our deep sympathy for the family as we know they will certainly miss Norm.

I have known Norm since 1983, back when he was working in the D&H Auto-body building with his good friends Jim, Dan and Kay Hayes. I was fortunate to catch him on a good day and he sold me his 1972 F250 High Boy. At the time it had yellow cab and a white truck bed. He loved seeing it after the Hayes boys put a good paint job on it. It’s been painted twice since then. He loved it when I would bring the truck into the shop and show it to him. Norm was a really good person and I’ll think of him every time I drive that truck. Todd is a good one too. See you around Todd, so sorry for you’re loss. I know he had a huge presence and will be missed.

To all the Norman Skiba family
Norman’s Alberta cousins (our Mom was a sister to Norm’s dad) are
saddened by your loss of Norman.
We were pleased to read the many comments that commended on Norman’s strength of character. As well we were pleased that he was still true to his Canadian roots. I had recently talked with Norman and knew he was suffering greatly but soldiering on.
Our hearts and thoughts are with you all during this difficult time as today you honor his life.
Cousins Lawrence Barany, Taber and Eileen (Barany) Weidman, Calgary
