Norman Elroy Huff passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025. He was born November 2, 1936, in Castle Gate, Utah, as the sixth of eight children to Manson and Mary Huff. He grew up in Castle Gate, where he met his lifelong sweetheart, Colleen, in first grade. It wasn’t love at first sight, because Norman was too short, but he was patient and in ninth grade, he finally got his “dear.” A few short years later, on April 1, 1954 they got married and started their lives together.
Norman joined the United States Air Force, where he learned about aircraft electrical systems, working on F-100, F-105, F-4, ending up on the F-111. After 20 years of traveling the world in the military he retired to their home in Layton, Utah. He worked at Hill Air Force Base on the F-16, retiring for good in 1988.
Norman’s life changed as he and his sweetheart became active in the LDS church together. Their marriage was sealed in the Ogden LDS temple on May 10,1978. He seemed genuinely happy as they worked in the Manti LDS temple for 10 years. He served in a couple of bishoprics and other callings. They served a full time Family History mission in McKinney Texas for two years. Norman loved his mission as his faith became very important to him.
He was a very good athlete and excelled at bowling and golf. His greatest sports achievement occurred in Carbon County where he won the Carbon County Country Club Golf Championship. Golf turned into Colleen and Norman’s day date. They also played in many bowling leagues together in their retirement years.
Apart from two years in Florida, Norman and Colleen spent their retirement in various locations in Utah, from Huntington to St. George, and finally Payson. Throughout all these moves and Norman’s health challenges, Colleen was always there. Without her help his life would have been much different.
Like most of us, Norman had some regrets, but he tried in his own way to tell everyone that he loved them with a hug and a smile
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 70 years Colleen, son Dennis (Kathy) Huff, son David (Linda) Huff, son Douglas (Aileen) Huff, daughter Sherryl (John) Van Den Huevel, daughter Carroll (Blair) Ames, and by 20 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, along with all his siblings.
As a family, we would like to thank the staff at Orchard View Assisted Living and Utah Home Health and Hospice, in particular Dad’s nurse, Kellie, for their care and help in making Dad comfortable as he passed.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 8 at 1 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home, 187 S Main St, Spanish Fork, UT. A visitation will be held prior to the service from Noon to 1 p.m. Interment with military honors will immediately follow in Spanish Fork City Cemetery, 420 S 400 E, Spanish Fork, UT.
