Nila Jane Cloward January 16, 1946 - May 12, 2022

Nila Jane Cloward peacefully passed away May 12, 2022, surrounded by her family.

She was born January 16, 1946, to Steve Peart and Edna Chapman Peart. Nila was the youngest of four children, a surprise and blessing to both her parents. She spent her childhood growing up and living in Santaquin, Utah.

In December of 1962, she married her life-long partner, Robert Rex Cloward. Together, Bob and Nila had four children and celebrated nearly sixty years of marriage.

Nila was a hard worker and always strived to ensure her family was well provided for. She spent several years running the mess hall at the Dugway Proving Grounds, worked and retired from Stouffer’s in Springville, Utah; and also worked for Mountain Country Foods. She always made the most of time spent at work, laughing, and making friends with her coworkers.

You could always find Nila laboring in her flower garden or in the yard. She found so much joy in planting, weeding, decorating, and making her yard beautiful. There were surprises everywhere the eye could look, garden art, fairy gardens, tiny painted rocks and so much more. She always kept her house tidy and fully decorated with all the latest trends. She could take an ordinary item and make it her own by adding a personal touch. Her greatest joy was her family and spending time with them whether they were just hanging out together enjoying a lemon coke or visiting over the phone. She could talk for hours and loved to chuckle. She cherished the little inside jokes she often shared with her family and friends.

Nila is survived by her husband, Bob Cloward; son, Jody Cloward; daughters, Tammy Eva and Jami Cloward; son, Trent (Mandy) Cloward; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and brothers, Brant Peart and Garth (Nedra) Peart. She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Pearl ReNay Peart Thompson; daughter-in-law, Julie Lynne Cloward; son-in-law, James Kerry Eva; and beloved granddaughter, Bekah Jane Eva.

Graveside services will be held at the Santaquin City Cemetery, Friday, May 20, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Santaquin City Cemetery.

I am grateful that Nila was my aunt. I was not able to spend as much time with her as I would have liked because we always lived too far apart. Nevertheless, whenever I saw her it was as though we had been together constantly. When I was a child and visited Utah during the summer, Nila was a young teenager. I thought she was the coolest and most beautiful person ever. I wanted to be just like her. We had so many magical times having picnics in Santaquin Canyon when she would tell me all about the stars and UFOs, and numerous other things. As I grew older I realized that Nila was one of the wittiest and most creative people I have ever known. She was so funny, she could have certainly been a stand up comedian. In essence, she gave me joy, laughter, and unconditional love — even in the most difficult of times. I tried many times to convince her to visit Greg and me in Idaho. I even told her I would fly to Salt Lake to pick her up and we could fly together. Just before the pandemic, I thought she was almost ready to do it. Now I wish I would have tried harder. The last time I saw her, I marveled at how she never seemed to change because she was just as beautiful, witty, and admirable as she was when I was a child. I will miss Nila and will always have her in my heart.

I am here to tell you about a lady that some of us are going to have a very hard time doing without, myself included. This is about my aunt Nila Jane Peart Cloward. There are so many things that made her special to me. I’ll mention a few here. She was so unique, I’ve never met anyone like her. She was witty, thoughtful, honest, and she meant what said. She was completely authentic. She could cheer me up on the gloomiest of days. I’d be thinking nothing anyone said or did could help, and out of nowhere she’d have me laughing. I admired her attention to detail, she kept the cleanest house. Even moving the fridge every time she swept the floor. I will miss her texts and calls asking if she could stop by and visit. I will miss our outings to get grilled cheeses and cokes. I could talk to her about everything, even the deeper subjects. I will miss everything about her.
Once when I was little I saw her all ready for a date. She was wearing the most beautiful dress I’d ever seen. She looked so dang cute in it she wasn’t no bigger than a minute. I thought since we were about the same height I could have one, too. My ever creative mom made me one and I thought I was it. That’s about when I started being in her fan club. I knew there was one because my older cousins had started it. They all loved and admired her like I did. I wish everyone could have a Nila in their life. She was an amazing mom, wife, sister, aunt, friend and so much more. I love her so much and find comfort in the fact that she’s been reunited with grandma and grandpa Peart.
