Myrtle Barlow Hammer, born September 21, 1924 in Burley Idaho to Israel Call Barlow and Myrtle Roundy Ford passed peacefully October 4, 2019, surrounded by family and friends.
She considered her greatest accomplishments in life to be her marriage to her life-long sweetheart Glenn Austin Hammer, her six children and many descendants, and her faith in Jesus Christ. Glenn served his country in the Navy during World War II and upon leaving the military in 1945 he and Myrtle began farming in Vale Oregon. Myrtle’s family remembers her working alongside her husband on the farm, her tidy home, her lemon meringue pies, her homemade bread and jams, her home-canned fruits and vegetables, and her beautiful handwork. She loved her children and enjoyed singing or playing the piano for them. She made great effort to be present for her children and grandchildren’s special events.
She is survived by 5 children (Glenn, Eugene, Suzanne, Mark and David), 20 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Glenn and daughter Diane.
