Myrl Beckstead Silcox April 29, 1927 - May 1, 2023

Myrl Beckstead Silcox, age 96, passed away peacefully in Salem, Utah on May 1, 2023. Myrl was born April 29, 1927 in South Jordan, Utah to Royal Victor Beckstead and Koradine Smith Beckstead. She graduated from Jordan High School, and married Jack W. Silcox on October 10, 1945 in the Salt Lake Temple. Jack and Myrl lived nearly their entire lives in Riverton, Utah, moving to Payson, Utah after selling their family farm.

Myrl was a devoted wife, mother, and disciple of Jesus Christ. She spent countless hours keeping the Silcox Raw Milk Depot operating while Jack was out looking for good deals on used cows and new vehicles. Together they loved sports, hunting, and family outings.

Myrl served faithfully in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in many callings, including Stake Primary President, member of the Primary General Board, and as a teacher of children and their leaders all over the world. She loved and devoted a great deal of time to Scouting. She served locally in many responsibilities and regionally as a member of the Executive Board of Great Salt Lake Council of the Boy Scouts of America. She was the recipient of the District Award of Merit, of the Silver Beaver, and of the Silver Antelope Awards for the service she rendered.

She accomplished many great things in her life, but her greatest joys were Jack, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great, great-grandchildren. Myrl loved and served people. No one ever left her home without feeling like they were Myrl’s best friend and the most important person in the world.

She is survived by five children: Jay (Cathy), Cottonwood Heights; Marie (Wayne) Steadman, Salem; Nadine (Kyle) McKee, South Jordan; Roy (Cathy), Salem; Brad (Julie), Payson; 19 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren, and 9 great, greatgrandchildren; a sister, Koradine (Robert) Schouten, South Jordan; and a sister-in-law Fern (Keith) Beckstead, Mesa, AZ. Preceded in death by her husband, Jack; her parents; five sisters and one brother; and two grandsons.

Myrl was kind and loving. She had a great sense of humor and always seemed willing to put up with the antics of her grandchildren when visiting (which I tagged along a few times in the way to the pool!). She leaves behind a legacy of love💕

For some reason Aunt Myrl has been on my mind recently. For some reason I decided to search for an obituary and was saddened to see this. I wish I had known.

Myrl was always so kind whenever I was around her, what a great family! I remember playing on the Yankees with Brad and going to school with Brad and Julie and having Roy and Kathy as youth leaders. Great people.!
