Mildred Marie “Meme” Hayward, 82, of Benjamin, Utah, passed away in the early morning hours of April 6, 2020 . . . 46 years to the day, her Pop passed away.
Meme was born December 12, 1937, in Payson, Utah, to Millard Theodore Balzly and Zoe Marie Rinehart. Meme grew up on the family farm in Benjamin, where she enjoyed milking cows and getting dirty out in the fields, helping her Pop and uncles.
Meme graduated from Spanish Fork High School in May of 1956. She married William Bubel; they were later divorced. She married Wallace Hayward, January 15, 1965. They were later divorced.
Meme loved being with family. She loved her siblings, kids and grandkids. She had a special love for her nephew, Kelton; they enjoyed going for rides, together, for milkshakes.
Meme worked for the telephone company in Spanish Fork, as an operator. From there, she went to work at the State Hospital, in Provo, as a technician. She worked there for many years until she retired. She loved her job at the State Hospital, commenting many times that she wished she could still work there. She loved her coworkers; and, especially, the patients. Meme had such a sweet spirit, and a keen sense of humor, right up to the end of her life.
Meme is survived by two children, Bill Hayward and Sharolyn Hayward. She is also survived by sisters and brothers: Peggy (Jim) Larsen, Greg (Nancy) Balzly, Ted Balzly, Mick Balzly, and Trudy Finster. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her son, Pete (Clark Jentry); parents, Millard and Zoe Balzly; brother, Terry Balzly; sister, Nyla Balzly; and a niece, SueAnn Nusink.
Fly high, with the angels, Meme!
Her family would like to thank the staff at Seasons of Santaquin for the exceptional care given her, along with Korin from Canyon Home Health and Hospice.
Visitation for friends and family will be Monday, April 13, 2020, from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 187 South Main Street, Spanish Fork, Utah. Graveside services, for family, will be Monday, April 13th at 12:00 p.m. at the Benjamin Cemetery.
