Meta Marie King May 17, 1959 - December 23, 2023

Meta Marie King passed away on December 23, 2023, following a valiant battle with a prolonged illness. Marie was born to Gerald and Jackie Wilson on May 17, 1959, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She spent her youth traveling with her family as her father was in the Air Force. She was joyously united with the love of her life, Jim King, on March 21, 1980. Together, they welcomed the blessings of parenthood with the birth of their son, Jimmy, in 1981, and their daughter, Nicole, in 1982.

On December 9, 1989, Marie and her cherished family were sealed for time and all eternity in the Provo temple, a testament to her enduring love and commitment. Marie’s sharp wit and unforgettable personality left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her heart found its greatest joy in the embrace of family, and she reveled in the role of a devoted grandmother, delighting in spoiling her beloved grandchildren. Her joy truly knew no bounds when spoiling her grandbabies. She often joked that if she could’ve had grandkids first, she would’ve never had kids! Just another testament to her Southern charm.

To know Marie was to love her.

She is survived by her husband, Jim King, her son, Jimmy King, and daughter, Nicole Clements. She is also survived by her six grandchildren: Dezirae, Zane, Trey, Kaylea, Chandler, and Alee. She is preceded in death by her parents, Gerald & Jackie Wilson, her baby brother Alan Wilson, Jakey (Wilson) baby, and her son-in-law Paul Clements.

We would like to express our appreciation for the love and kindness shown to Marie and our family to her sweet nurse Megan and the staff at UVRMC. We’re truly grateful for your love and care.

There will be a graveside service at Payson City Cemetery on December 30, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. for family and friends. As we gather to honor and remember Marie, we recognize that many wish to express their condolences in various ways. I am so sorry to hear of Marie’s passing.

The first time I ever met Marie, we played a practical joke on her and true to Marie’s character, she handled it like a pro and I liked her immediately.
Marie was/is the embodiment of acceptance as judgment is truly foreign to her, she always was quick to stick up for the under dog. I loved this about her as well as so many other attributes.

She and I attended Grandparents/Aunts day for Chandler while he was in elementary school and we had a blast. Marie was the queen of hilarious one-liners and always knew how to get a well intentioned laugh.

Godspeed Marie. You are undoubtedly enjoying your well deserved reunion.
