With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Maylene Lee Monsen, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who peacefully left this world on February 14, 2025, in Spanish Fork, Utah. Born on August 1, 1966, in Keelung, Taiwan, to her loving parents, Li Yan Cai and Ye Bi Lian, Maylene’s journey through life was one marked by grace, warmth, and a deep love for those around her.
Maylene graduated from Keelung Commercial and Industrial High School in Keelung, Taiwan, and later continued her education through online classes from BYU-Idaho. Her pursuit of knowledge and self-improvement was a reflection of her independence and determination. Throughout her life, Maylene wore many hats. She worked at a shoe store in Taipei, Taiwan, and later worked at a wood shop in Salt Lake City, Utah. Eventually, she found her calling as a licensed daycare provider in Spanish Fork, where her nurturing spirit shone brightly as she cared for many children.
Maylene’s life was filled with a deep love for serving others. She would spend hours doing nails for others, making sure they felt beautiful, and she dedicated hundreds of hours to genealogical research both in Utah and Taiwan, honoring her ancestors with her tireless work. Her devotion to temple work was also unmatched, as she served diligently to complete work for as many ancestors as she could.
Her love for life was infectious. Maylene was an amazing karaoke singer, captivating everyone with her beautiful voice. She cherished the simple joys in life, especially walking with family and friends, enjoying the fresh air and connection. Cooking and eating Chinese food were among her greatest pleasures, and she always delighted in sharing these meals with loved ones.
Maylene was deeply committed to her faith. She served in her church callings as a Sunday School teacher and a Primary teacher, where her loving, patient, and dedicated spirit helped shape and inspire many young lives. Her independence, strength, and remarkable ability to give of herself to others were qualities that defined her and made her an exceptional individual.
Maylene is survived by her devoted husband, Gary, her four children, Marcus (Rose), Eric, Jake, and Myles, and her cherished grandchildren, Chloe, Catalina, and Jhene. She is also survived by her parents, Li Yan Cai and Ye Bi Lian. While she is no longer with us, her legacy of love, kindness, and compassion will continue to inspire and guide us forever.
May her memory be a blessing, and may she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by love and the light of countless cherished memories.
